sorry to bring back the past, but im not ready to upgrade yet (waiting until after new year's). basically, i got in on one of those sl6rz 2.4ghz p4's with multivid. however, mine was the costa rica 1.525v, so the general idea says that the high 1.525v (when it can be as low as 1.475v) is a pretty shitty chip already.

i recall that these sl6rz's o/ced cleanly to 3.2ghz usually on stock voltage or a little lower on just the stock hsf.

however, like i mentioned before, i havent been able to get it stable much past 150fsb (2700mhz), and maybe around 2800 or so, i need a shitload of voltage to let it be stable. past that, it just wont prime or be stable no matter what. and more voltage does not help at that point.

i am on the stock hsf, but the story i heard was that its okay for these chips. my question is that--would it be worth it to get a beefier hsf? like i said, im going to be upgrading right when the new year comes, and to a s939, so id rather not invest in a s478 cooler if its not going to have any gains.

what do you think?

What mobo are you using?
does it have the AGP/PCI lock?

I had 2 of the SL6RZ and both went to around 180/185 on 1.575v and temps were very good

i was using an albatron px845pev pro (845pe) and yes it does do pci/agp lock

i thought it mgiht be the motherboard so i went for an 865pe and that was worse

hope this helps

Actually, I it 4 Ghz with a 2.4B SL6RZ @ 1.7V (223 Mhz FSB) with a Vapochill a year ago. It did something around 3.8 Ghz on the stock HSF and ran flawlessly at the stock 2.4 ghz with only 1.0V Vcore.

Probably one of the best CPUs i ever got my hands on... i still got the screenshots on my HD somewhere.

it is all luck of the draw, my 2.4b will barely run at 166mhz fsb at 1.6v (and not stable) so I just run it not overclocked. (this with a Zalman 7000 ALCU) Temps are fine, it is just not stable.
