Reformatting Friends Computer

I am reformatting my friends HP because it is way overloaded with spyware and viruses. Hes got the C: drive and hes got this weird Recovery partition that HP put on there. Its like 4 gigs big and I was wondering if I could put all of his music into it and just reformat the other half of his C drive leaving that 4 gig partition alone.
 
You could do that, how much files and stuff does he have that you need to recover?
 
That 4gb partition is there because he doesnt have a Windows disk or recovery disk (unless he special ordered it).

There's NOTHING to prevent you from doing what you describe, and YES it will work. Just make 110% damn sure that you have his windows key, all device drivers, software that he wants from HP before you zap that partition. It is there for a really good reason.

device drivers. shit. forgot about sound drivers and shit. shit shit shit. i guess im just gonna back up everything with discs. shit shit shit.

all and all its about 5 gigs of stuff i need to backup. including 100 some songs that the dumbass bought off of iTunes. i don't know how itunes works either when you move the bought songs.
 
Shouldn't the recovery partiton have all the things he needs? CDKey, drivers etc?

Yes. Probably along with a sufficient amount of bloatware, to make it more worthwhile to just do a clean install - if a Win XP disc is available.
For device drivers, you should be able to download them all off of HP's website. Then just slipstream them (and SP2, hotfixes, etc) with nLite, and you're set.

You might want to check into the iTunes support/help online about moving bought files from one install/pc to a new install/pc.
 
How do I access the shit in the Recovery drive? Whenever I try to open the drive I get this HP warning thing. Or when you reformat does all the shit on that drive automatically install itself? I tried right clicking and exlporing but nothing shows up and I tried setting the folder options to show hidden files. How do you access the drivers in that damn drive?
