Rediculous Idea

I've been throwing this idea around in my head...decided to throw it on here to see what ya'll would think.

What if, you ducted the intake/exhaust of your PC into the wall cavities of your home?
Obviously there is the fact that you'd be cutting at least 1 120mm hole into the side of your wall but if you never plan to move the room layout around, it would be an easy patch for when you move out.

But here is what I was thinking, for those of us that have a 120mm exhaust (or in my case intake) you could get some flexible tubing to run from the wall to the back of the computer and then cut a hole in your basement/crawl space floor where the wall cavity is for the air to be drawn from....though crawl space would be a less suitable location and you'd definately want to be an air filter of some sort over it.

Then you could also do the same for the hot air exhaust except go up to the attic and cut the hole there so the heat would naturally rise up into the attic instead of dumping into your room. You could even install a trap door that opens when the fans turn on.

On the subject of fans, it would also probably be possible to wire a 10-15 foot double-wire strand to molex connectors and connect a high speed fan to it up in attic so that, 1. you dont have that massive noise of a fan directly beside you and 2. it would help pull the air through the tube.

These are just ideas floating around in my head....now [H] community....someone do it lol or tell me what's wrong/right about it (Other then OMG YOUR CUTTING HOLES IN YOUR WALLS NO NO NO)

if noise or heat is such an issue then get a water cooling setup. these cutting through the wall mods are just silly.

Biggest issue is running ducting. Most houses have walls full of fiberglass insulation.

If I were you, I'd just get a watercooling setup with a big external radiator and a very powerful pump and try to put the radiator in a closet or a window or something.

That would have little effect on the heat delivered to the room. Actually slightly more heat would be delivered to the room with a WC setup since the pump needs power..

blah....a couple of you aren't getting the point...of course it wouldn't be practical to do this hell you could probably argue about building codes or somthing...have some fun with the idea.

Anyways, if I got a watercooling setup, there would still be fans blowing across a radiator filled with water to remove the heat and still dumping it into the room instead of a fan blowing across a heatsink.

For the other responses, most interior walls (most, not all) are actually hollow, no insulation to fight through but you could just go down if you have a basement/crawlspace...shouldn't have to worry about more then maybe a foot of insulation if you were doing an exterior wall or the odd interior one that is insulated.

a lot of interior bedroom walls are insulated to reduce noise to other rooms. anyway end result is you have some sort of duct running from the back of your power supply (or case fan) into a floor, wall or ceiling, and somewhere a blower is connected to it to pull air out. I can't imagine someone doing this to their own house so it is probably their parents or a rental that they are talking about. either way, not cool.

Yes, but 1/2" tubes are a lot easier to run through walls than 5" ducting.

So negative...why is it not cool? Sure, it would look ugly if you just cut a hole in the wall and fed tubing up through it. But you could always put a wall plate on it with a hose connector so that when the tube isnt on it the door would be closed on it and it would just look like a port of some sort on the wall just like electric sockets or any other type of electronic wall plate...though this would be quite a bit larger. Creativity my friend, water-cooling didnt start out pretty, practical, or for much more of purpose other then to say it can be done as an alternative to air (no im not saying this is gonna be the next wave of computer cooling)

lol, true

OOO stick the radiator and fan in the wall cavity and then just have a couple couplings attached to a plate that you attach your WC hoses to lol.
