Does anyone know what a red light means on a powercolor 4870? It has 4 lights at the back and the second from the top is red while the others are off. It works fine until I try to play a game then the screen goes black and before that there is a noise from the PSU.

I read on another forum that the lights means it's a lack of power. Is it not getting enough power? But I have an Antec neopower 500W and only a dual core CPU with 3 hard drives and a sound card drawing power.

I don't have a manual because I bought the card used and didn't get one.

Here you go:

LEDS on HD4870 cards

D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault

D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed

D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault

I'm having issues as well, although I don't think its the PS.

thank you. It seems

"D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault " is the one that is red.

Can that mean the PSU is not delivering enough or is the video card broken? I have no other video card or PSU to test with unfortunatly =(

EDIT: I read on another forum that someone had the same problem and he tried other PSU's without success some at 1300watt so it should not be a problem with power. I guess the card is broken...

EDIT2: It seems to be a common problem on powercolor 4870. One guy on a forum says he has had 3 cards doing this. Powercolor claims it's the PSU, but he had tried several.

Guess there is nothing I can do except get another video card...

Mine lights D1601 and D601, but only does this with Cat 9.8 and above so far. With cat 9.6's and below it runs perfectly fine. (have to read the post [linked above] for the full story.)
