I only have one harddrive and the data got corrupted.
Windows would not boot and the setup said it was too corrupted to install windows over the old one, so I had to format the drive

I used quick format ntfs and then reinstalled windows on it

Whats the best way to get data from the old windows installation?

Because you have formatted and reinstalled windows, I doubt anything but a professional recovery service will help. Try GetDataBack.

Good Luck!

Try GetDataBack (free for scanning and seeing if it can recover anything, you gotta buy to recover), Recuva (free), NTFS Undelete (free I think).

If you had not reinstalled windows you would have probably been able to get back everything, but now that you reinstalled and started writing over previous data, you might have lost the ability to recover some portion of the files.

Normally, once your Drive has been Formatted "Warning! All Data is Lost" Proceed Y/No should have rung a bell.
Recovery Services are very Expensive, and Unless you had very important Financial Information, etc. it usually isn't worth the Trouble. That's why it is Imperative that you Commit to a Regimen of Weekly Backups.

One Last Thing, just Recently Thermaltake introduced a Fine Product called the BlacX SATA Drive Docking Station that appears to be able to do just those kinds of Recovery Work, also the ability of Creating Mirror Drives, etc. It might be worth looking into, especially if your Data is as important as mine is.

GetDataBack is an exceptional program. I reformatted a computer on accident at work and lost someone's data!!!! Oops!

I used GDB and walla, i was able to get EVERYTHING back! The client was pleased, as was I.
