I have been reading a lot of threads about issues with 680 chipset and Q6600 so I need a little guidance from you. I want to upgrade to a Q6600 and want to overclock it.

Here are my requirements
max possible OC on Q6600 with air (without being obnoxiously loud)
SLI capable
Will be using 2GB DDR2 sticks with plans to expand to 8GB later

here are components I will be carrying over from old system
1 x eVGA 7950 GX2 (either upgrading to two GX2 or SLI 8800 or next gen DX10 card)
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W
2 x 74GB Raptor
1 x 300GB Maxtor
Plextor DL DVDR sata

Thanks

well man i am not sure what to tell you about the air cooling because i use water, but on the overclocking on a 680i chipset it takes some work but i am running a Q6600 B3 @ 3.4ghz @ 1.47v. and i am sure you would get a Go if i bought a Q6600 right now. So i would say dont worry about the 680i. Well that is only me to.

Soo, I just gotta ask, what did the other threads say?

Most 680i chipset problems revolve around a weak memory controller and I think you will have more problems with using all 4 dimm slots than with overclocking. That being said I have the evga 680i a1 and 4 gigs of ram with vista ultimate and I have never had a problem. So I guess its just luck of the draw.

Are you using all four banks?
Or just two with 2GB DIMMS?
