Looking for a modular supply for my new build. Not sure what brands are good or not as Ive been out of the loop for about 2+ years.

Going to be running an i5, GT240, 2-3 Hard drives, 1-2 optical drives.

I'm not sure what kind of wattage I need. Im PSU dumb :p Thanks.

Thx.

EDIT** The PSU listed in my sig is being sold with the computer when it goes so keeping it is out.

This PSU should be enough:
$60 - Antec EA500D 500W PSU

BTW which GT 240 card are you getting? If it costs $90+, don't get it as you can get the faster HD 5670 in that price range.

The PSU you recommended looks great with 2 exceptions. I'd like to find a PSU with a big fan on the bottom to reduce noise (my current antec psu fan isnt the quietest thing out there) and its not modular which I did happen to mention in the first post. Thanks though.

Also, I am not a fan of ATI cards. Had a bad experience with a few of them a few years back. Just a stupid quirk, but I have a hard time ordering one. I was looking at this one from XFX. I have had good luck with XFX in the past but I am open to other suggestions.

Totally missed the modular part. Then I recommend this PSU then:
$110 - Antec Earthwatts EA750 750W PSU

Even though you're still paying more money for less performance, if you really don't like ATI cards, at least get the 9800GT which can be found for around $100. It'll definitely be faster than the GT 240 in gaming.

Thanks guys. I'm not building this to be a hardcore gaming rig. I selected the GT240 because of the audio over HDMI that it does. I am going to be hooking this to a receiver in the near future and I hate using tons of cables. Just want one to do both audio and video. Also its a pretty good upgrade from my 8600GTS as is so I don't mind not having the bleeding edge gpu.

That antec truepower looks great! Thanks again!

Get the 650W version, that's more than enough for a GT240
While true, the 650W version is only $10 cheaper than the 750W model. So the 750W has the better bang for the buck value.

whats with all the antec recommendations? they giving you kick backs? hehe why not get a gold 80+ efficient psu? i havnt looked at reviews in a while but the enermax revolution or something was top notch.

I wish I was getting kickbacks from Antec :)

Nah but seriously, Antec just has some of the best bang for the buck PSUs out there. They also tend to have frequency of discounts on Newegg.

As for the gold 80+, having a Gold 80+ doesn't make the PSU automatically good. Nor are the savings in electricity are generally worth the higher costs of 80+ Gold PSUs.

Yes the Enermax Revo was top notch but it is total overkill for this setup.

Actually, I think I am going to switch down to the GT220. It does lossless audio and I don't need everything the GT240 offers. Its overkill. I never do any gaming on here anymore. Its all done on my 360.

Would a 450w psu be adequate for that kind of build?

Yes a good quality 450W PSU would be adequate. Modular still a requirement?

I think Im going to use the Antec Mini p180 case, so nope, don't need modular. A big silent fan however is a requirement. And nothing that lights up. Also, all my drives are SATA drives, so something with appropriate connections would be appreciated.

EDIT** Does anyone have experience with this brand before? I think its the same company that makes memory but Im not 100% sure. Pretty killer deal after MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016

i still stick to my enermax revo comment.. even other guy said its TOP NOTCH.. can always use the psu on next build too (thats what i say) i spend about 150 on each part of my pc. dont see why id buy a 70$ ugly mediocre antec psu. Just think energy savings top notch mmmm and trick your self to spending few extra bux for the good shit

Anything Corsair is good. Antec = meh
Most Antec PSUs are either good or excellent.

Getting an Enermax Revolution85+ PSU for this build would be stupid considering the power requirements. In fact, even the lowest-capacity model which is 850W will be pretty inefficient at these loads whereas a cheaper lower-wattage unit would do better in that regard.

Update. Got a Corsair 450w from Newegg for like 65 plus a 10 MIR. Been working flawlessly since last night when I slapped everything together.
