So i need to buy an enclosure that works for both IDE and SATA, i have been looking at new egg but there are only a few available and they have mixed reviews. I had an enclosure before that stopped working (USB device no recognized) so I dont want to get another one that fails. I would also like to be able to leave the enclosure on for long periods of time. Any recommendations?

Do ya really need an enclosure? I f ya don't really need the exclosure, why don't ya try an adaptor?

I have a 3.5" and a 2.5" Vantec Nexstar products and both work great.

No I use it for back-up mostly. Every few weeks I back-up files off of my computers. I also used it a few times when I had disks get corrupted and they wouldn't boot (I had a stick of memory fail). I put them in enclosure and get things off drives. It's a handy thing for 35 beans.

Well that shouldn't be a problem. You'll be using the same drives that you would buy and put in machine. The enclosure shouldn't be a problem. One reason the case is so tight is because any heat doesnt stay in enclosure but is radiated away by the enclosure itself. I have never seen the temps get high anyway and thats even after letting in transfer for a couple hrs straight.

Why would you need both for an external HDD? If you have multiple external drives, get multiple external cages. Dual format ones, if they exist, would be larger and costly.
Are these Thermaltake A2395's horizontally stackable? tnx

37.99 at this posting. Having a enclosure that does both is nice if you still have older drives. I use all SATA now but use my perfectly good IDE drives in enclosure for back-up and storage.

Technically it looks possible - however they are shiny and don't come with holder that would facilitate keeping them secure in a stack. One side of the enclosure has little metal nibs for feet but thats probably for horizontal desktop use. With potential heat geting trapped in middle of a stack and the slippery surface of these Thermaltakes I would use something else to stack or get a $150 multiple drive enclosure.
