1. Do you have a Fry’s or Microcenter nearby?
NO

2. What is this PC going to be built for?
Gaming - Guild Wars 2 (beta this year), Civ V, StarCraft 2

3. *** If Gaming... what resolution/monitor will you be using?
Right now 1280x1024, but possibly up to 1920 x 1080 after I purchase a new monitor.

4. What is YOUR budget?
~$600-650 (for CPU, MOBO, RAM, VID CARD) The rest I already have, depending if my 480w psu can handle the newer parts.

5. If YOU have any unreasonable brand preferences?
Bang for the buck

6. Have YOU performed any research yet?
These are the parts I have so far...
$195 - i5 -750
$ 85 - 4gb ram
$120 - Gigabyte mobo
$230 - gtx 460

7. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts?
Antech p180 case
140gb raptor hard drive as primary
480w psu (4 years old, Im thinking I may have to upgrade it)

8. If YOU plan on overclocking?
NO

9. When do you plan to build it?
This fall / winter.

Currently running c2d e6600 with 4gb ram and 7900gtx OC edition , 480w PSU built in 2006.

I do more gaming on 360/ps3 but am more interested in upgrading for Guild Wars 2 that will be in beta this year, released in 2011 (System requirements not released). $600-$650 is my budget. I only need CPU, RAM, Vid Card, and MOBO), possibly PSU.

My own questions...

Am I going over kill with a i5, gtx460 or am I better off with an i3, 5770, or even keep the same motherboard and upgrade to a better Intel core2 or coreQuad cpu / videocard? If there is an AMD equiv of i5 that is better bang for the buck Im all about it.

You're looking at a new PSU. A four year old 480W PSU just screams low quality and outdated.

A C2Q update is not worth the money at all. Considering your budget, you're better off with a Phenom II 955 build. Go for an AMD 870 or 880G chipset motherboard.

Where did you get those questions from? Seems similar to the ones we ask but still different. And is there any way you can narrow down when exactly you're planning on building the PC? I ask because any part we recommend now will more than likely not be a good buy in the fall and a dumb buy in the winter.

If you're near a frys they frequently have phenom ii x4 mobo/cpu bundles, a while back my buddy got a 955+msi 890gxm-g65 for $170. If you can get in on one of those bundles you can save a decent amount of money and put it to use elsewhere in the rig.

CPU: $160 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130275
Mobo: $100-$10 MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130275
RAM: $87 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211409
GTX 460 1GB: $210 (a few to choose from)
Power Supply: $70 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

$627 before shipping, but like danny said if you're going to be waiting a while to upgrade you should just post then.
