i'm probably going to upgrade my loop in the not so distant future (another rad, maybe a flow meter and maybe NB cooling) and was wondering if its advisable to reuse coolant or just to ditch it and start a fresh

reason i ask is i'm running feser liquid and at just over €10/liter its not the cheapest thing in the world.

whats your thoughts/advice (and no i don't want to use distilled water, i like the acid green :p )

wow, two posts saying get distilled even though the original op said he did not want to use distilled...nice one.

put new coolant in. makes for a much happier/cleaner loop.

how long has it been since you've changed the fluid?

I did not tell him to use distilled water. All I said is what I use [ why I voted bin it ] and why I do not reuse my coolant.

Ok I am a distilled water guy too but to the OPs point....

I would not reuse normally but on the other hand my money tree in the back yard has developed a terrible blight and has not recently dropped a lot of spare cash... so if I was hurting or for some reason could not did not want to take the time to order some new stuff I would find a clean glass jar with a wide mouth and take some wire and bend it up to support a coffee filter and run the old coolant thru the filter before I reused it and just add distilled water to make up for any loss.

Ok so I'll bin it :)

I've got enough left to fill it a least twice more and bills tip is great for an emergency.

and hopefully after next upgrade i wont (haha) be upgrading for a while.

Depends on the coolant you are referring to. Primochill? Feser One? Hydrox?

I've re-used the Feser One pre-mix without issue. Guess it would really depend on the condition of your blocks/pump/rad. If the fluid still looks as good as the day you put it in, go for it. If it looks cloudy or has small particles floating in it, its time to dump it and flush your cooling system.

I tend to drain my loop so often that i just stick with distilled and ptnuke. at 98c a gallon, i can afford to dump it and use fresh stuff. Plus i always make too much of a mess that dyes would ruin my carpet.

I use 10% blue vw coolant + 10% distilled water. Works fine, and it's $25 for a gallon but a gallon will probably last you a few years. No harm in reusing it.

I'd run it through a coffee filter to get out any solids. Then put it right back in. Good as new. This is what I do whenever I have to drain and refill.
