Nah, DirectX needs a worthy competitor.

If Microsoft sees a bunch of sales lost because people can get a similar experience on a free OS, then M$ may pay more attention to windows as a desktop platform.

Think about it: steam machines are announced and tested, now Microsoft are panicking saying things like " we need to focus on PC gaming!"

Yeah, the big M needs a fire lit under its seat.

Mantle is the only low level api, so far so good, unless you can name a few others that are low level and work ?
