Razer DeathAdder vs. Logitech G9

Is there any benefit to playing with a super high dpi setting and extremely low in-game settings versus medium dpi settings and medium-low in-game settings? For example: 5700 dpi and 0.7 sensitivity in-game versus 1800dpi and 2.0 sensitivity in-game?

Yeah but there are diminishing returns to how it actually feels. Depends on your resolution and some other factors. You can test it by lowering your DPI to like 800dpi then raise your game sens to compensate, and feel the result. Then switch it around. Raise DPI to max and lower sens and see the difference. Or any DPI in between. Its the sort of thing you have to try for yourself.

To figure out which game sensitivity to use:
(current dpi * current in-game sensitivity) / new dpi = new sens

example with 5700dpi with 1 sensitivity, going to 800 dpi you set it to 7.125:
(5700 * 1) / 800 = 7.125

This is assuming you already have it set to 1:1 pixel (no acceleration) in windows and/or your mouse driver.

No. It's all personal preference at this point.

The G9x is the mouse to have. I gained my lost edge back in UT2004 with it. It's the first Logitech mouse I've had since I switched over from the MX518 to the Copperhead.

As a matter of fact, you should only get the G9x with this grip. If you don't, I agree, the G9x will probably suck, because I can't hold it with the grips included. I had to buy this separately:

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Custom-Grip-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B002P8M6RK

When I bought the custom grip, it was $7.00. Since it's getting harder to find, they increased the price to $17.00!!!

I doubt I will need that grip because I use the finger tip grip. Im looking for a mouse strictly for SC2 only and my palms almost never touch the mouse. I use my fingers and wrist to move.

I've been using the G9 since it came out and just recently switched to the DeathAdder. The G9 wins in ergonomics but the DA tracks a lot better especially in twitch shooters (low-sensitivity player). I've always felt something was a little off with the G9 but kept using it cause I took a break from shooters until recently when I started playing BFBC2 and TF2 again. My only gripe with the DA is it can get slippery cause they use smooth plastic on the sides which sucks for thumb/finger grippers like me.

My favorite mouse was the Diamondback, which I still have in storage, but it was too slow once I made the transition from CRT to a 26" LCD. I'm very tempted to try out the Diamondback 3G, too bad I only found out about it after I purchased my DeathAdder :(.

I also heard that the DA tracks better which is why I am having this dilemma. The easy tracking is a plus for me but it still seems like the G9 is better.

Fair enough. It's purely subjective, and whatever is comfortable for you, you should get.

The DA does not track better than the G9x with the right surface. Nor does the "new" DA 3.5G or whatever other crap they want to call it. The G9x is way beyond either of them. In addition, the G9x has a boatload more features than either of the Razer mice, one of which is the ability to remove prediction, which causes stair like effects when you are trying to make a curve. As far as I know, no Razer mouse gives you the ability to disable this. You have no idea what difference this made since I disabled it for my G9x. Not only in games, but also in Photoshop. I can't believe I've been without such an option for this long.

Remember, to top this all off, I made all my changes in the software, then saved it to the memory profile on the G9x, and uninstalled the Logitech software. So all this is native to the mouse now.

ajm you got it all wrong, deathadder 3g with1.28VDC - 3.5g and abyssus are prediction free, the tracking is also top notch as long as you're using a pad that does NOT cause jitter ( http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1881007 )

logitech g9x actually has a high malfunction speed for a laser mouse but its perfect control speed is pretty low, you get a litlle positive accel if you do long fast swipes on the pad so it's useless for low sensitivity players who want consistency, every mouse with the avago 9500 has the same problem, xai G500 etc

on the other hand razer 3g/3.5g mice give 1:1 response unless you're stupid and wanna go low sens - high dpi in a source game, you're going to get HUGE amounts of negative accel that way. http://www.overclock.net/computer-p...acceleration-updated-steams-confirmation.html

You're not taking into consideration the liftoff (tracking on the z-axis) that Razer can't ever seem to get right. I've had 3 Razer first gen Deathadders, both with different results. The first I had was good. The second, some trash, and the third, the best out of the 3.

The 3.5G is total trash. Razer uses the Phillip dual eye laser optics for this one instead of the Avago 9500.

The Xai does have a problem. This is because Steelseries uses a "proprietary" version of the Avago 9500. The Logitech version, as far as I know from reading on ES Reality, Gotfrag and other forums, has had the positive accel for the most part fixed via a combination of firmware updates as well as correct surface.

The Razer 3G MIGHT give 1:1 response. I'll tell you that I've always had slight positive acceleration with it. The Razer 3.5G? Not a chance. You'll get all kinds of erratic response with that. The G9x? I get perfect 1:1 with it. Seriously. First time I've been confident in my input device since the last 3-5 years.

Bottom line? For the price, you can't beat the G9x right now. Features and everything considered, it's the best to get. Don't think that I'm biased, because I'm not. I've had 5 Razer mice in all, which I shelled out hard earned cash for, and ALL of them had some kind of stupid small or big problem that I had to compromise on. The G9x? Nothing. Plug in, install, configure, and enjoy since I got it.

I only have personal experience with the razer abyssus, no prediction perfect 1:1 tracking at 450dpi/1000hz and a liiitle bit of jitter and medium lift off distance on my zowie g-rf (it's much worse on other pads like steelseries SP qck+ puretrak talent etc ) 3.5g sensor and philips twin eye laser are two different sensors, only mamba and imperator use them afaik, and yes they've been many reports about the z-axis tracking problem when repositioning the mouse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZhFKOq8CM8

afaik all mice with the 9500 sensor have slight positive acceleration if you you exceed 1.3m/s or something, what's that special firmware update and mousepad you're talking about ? i did a little bit of googling but all I saw was whining and complaints http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-series-Gaming-Mice/G9x-Positive-Acceleration-Problem/td-p/427990 http://forums.logitech.com/t5/G-ser...-turn-off-acceleration-completely/td-p/384440

^ thanks

I ended getting a G9x for $45 shipped
Where?

How do you feel about the G500 and G700? I picked up a Xai from BB yesterday...and I hate it. It's like my hand's being crumpled into some sort of pincher. Not to mention the tall ass that's numbing my palm! Grrrr...it does seem to track better than the Ikari Laser. As well it should, the damn thing gets so warm, I can feel the heat on the right side...and that's idling! Then we have the clickity clackity buttons on the right side going nuts every time I pick the thing up.

The Ikari's like an extension of my hand. It doesn't try to twist or contort my digits into some sort of electric spaghetti and runs cool ALL the time. I friggin' love this mouse.

I've gone from the IM 1.1 to the MX510, MX518, to the Ikari Laser. I never liked the tracking of the G5's, so I skipped out on them. But I'm a little curious about the new G500/700.

g700 is hotness. i got rid of my mx518 after years of service since the noise finally got to me =[

just got the g700 today, very nice

My 518 died a slow and painful death at a LAN. It was horrifying. R.I.P. little buddy. :'(

G9x. I've never used another mouse that was as comfortable for fingertip grip.

That mouse doesn't do well for palmers, does it? The back of ma hand would be fallin off its ass, yeah?

Where?

G700, I don't have an opinion on, since I've never felt it. The G500? I decided to skip it, and for good reason. Logitech keeps rehashing the MX500 design over and over and over and over, and I was waiting for something with a different (dammit) design to come out; they just would keep releasing mice based on the MX500, and wouldn't stop! The G500 is slightly different from that shape, but still retains its overall characteristics.

Hmmm...the mionix naos 5000 lools like the Ikari and Xai had a baby. Right down to the software. $90 bucks sucks tho.

MX510/518 is my favorite for FPS, and the razer naga is my favorite for MMO or games where i could use the extra keybinds.

I actually prefer the Steelseries Xai over all of the others mentioned.

Death Adder, Though I slowly migrating to a Razor Mamba for the buttons because of my cerebral Palsy.

Again, using it with the ID grip, it's good for palm gripping. I personally am a palmer, so believe me, it works. :)
Perhaps, but that requires you to buy an extra part. As it comes out of the box, it's not ideal for palming.

G9 for life , I love it. Razor makes good products though so if my G9 ever dies I'll consider them.

I had a deathadder for a couple months and it ended up dying when I tried to update the drivers/firmware from their website. The support was horrid and the mouse felt cheap. Never again.

Oooh! Are we Razer bashing!? Here's my contribution! :p

Honestly, I'd prefer something even bigger than the Ikari. Can't stand my hand hitting the mouse pad...even a little.
