Okay I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 since it was released on the same box and just the other day for no reason at all a little bubble popped up saying I need to re-activate windows. Well that would be great if I actually changed some hardware or something, but I didn't.

If I try and reactivate online it just gives me the "this key is already in use" drivel. This event has happened on my bro's box with Home Premium and I had to call in to get a reactivation code.

WHY is this happening? I have done NOTHING to incur this, only recently I updated my ATi GPU drivers.

anything oced?

anything that would have triggered a bios reset?

those are probably the things i would look into..

Yes my system has been overclocked since I built it about a year ago. I have not changed any settings or even been in the BIOS since I finished overclocking it months ago.

Any other ideas?

It takes like 5 minutes to do the phone re-activation... Almost everything is automated now... including the questions about having to replace hardware.

By now it could have already been reactivated. LOL

Well it's re-activated, I just don't understand why this happened.

My brothers computer did the same thing and it's perfectly stock with nothing modified or changed ever....

dunno.. MS did have an issue a little while ago, where a few thousand machines were de-activated /labeled as not genuine for some reason.

When I was running only XP, if I disabled my onboard NIC it would tell me that I needed to activate Windows... re-enable the NIC and it went away.

I'll just chalk it up as a glitch in the system then. Though I am going to be calling them again when I rebuild my computer in a few months  :D

I get to talk to my Indian friend again! yay.....:p
