i know cpus are multi taskers and gpus are math mchines..but with the incredible speed of a gpu..why arent chip companies moving towards cpu/gpu style processors that speed up everything and use less power..??? or are they? sorry ive been under a rock for a while

eventually i see a machine with one bad azz chip that does it all.. and is scaleable
 
Umm they are progessing towards that. Intel's Core i3 and Core i5 CPUs have had an integrated GPU since release. In addition, ALL currently released Intel Sandy Bridge CPUs have an integrated GPU.

As for AMD, they've been working on their AMD Fusion where the CPU and GPU are combined into one package.
 
can someone give me a link to a good up to date site where i can catch up with the lastest architecture and stuff?
