First build and first time oc'ing.

Ran the 8400 for a week with no probs @ 3.6. Yesterday @ 3.8 both tested 12hrs prime no probs.

Today @ 4.05 (had to bump core volts up to 1.3 ) currently 4 hrs on Prime with no hiccups, temps look ok?

I have not messed with the timings ( left on auto ). Will getting these down say to 5-5-5-15 make that much of a difference?

Thx...

Holy Crap !

You did something very right ! Excellent budget build. Watch the NB temps (use your finger there is no temp readout you can get with software, it should be needing a fan ) and the CPU voltage regulation circuitry around the cpu is not the beefiest in the world. You will notice the lowest fins on your heatsink are bent down in back to try to throw some air on those parts but there are some above the cpu socket that could use some air too.

depends, well not really, you not going to see/feel anything, You didnt give much details on ram so this is all I have to go by.

running 800MHz PC6400 ram at 900MHz you are not going to be able to tighten them up much anyway. If its is stable, you are already at CAS 5, not too shabby, play with it if you want, I doubt you will get it down to CAS 4. Cant hurt anything, well it could trash your windows install so I would be booting into a memtest86+ CD for testing, a lot of testing before I tried windows.

But no, it wont make much of a difference but then whats the fun in that ?

Temps great, other than bragging (and you have some right to brag) its the "distance to Tj max" that matters and yours is better than mine and I am on water. YOU BASTID !!! I hope to heaven you live in Antarctica an have a window open. :D

As long at distance to Tjmax is 20 or greater there is nothing to worry about and if you go by the specs even just 1 deg to Tjmax is ok, Tjmax = 0 is where intel defines the cpu as "too hot - spin up the fans to 100%) and several deg above even that, the chip will shut down to protect itself. So the 20 number is a seat of the pants conservative guessitamate based on the experience of posters, the specs, etc. etc.

Nice build, and nicer OC. CAS4 would make a small benchmark difference over CAS5... not terribly noticable in standard use.

Also, I agree with above post... you likely won't have much luck at lowering the timings to CL 4, given you're at 900MHz. I know you'd be good for CL4 at stock clock, but probably not at 900MHz. (It'd be dandy if you could get there, though... those are some nice sticks).

Thx for the input! Wasn't trying to brag, like I said first time doing this stuff and with out you guy's that are helping us, I'd be lost! So with that, a big thumbs up to all of you that help out!

It did fail after 5 hrs on prime today, might have to get the core up a touch more.

I ran 3d mark with it today and posted over 14000 ( http://service.futuremark.com/home.action, last pc posted under 5000, so I'm pretty happy with that. :D

Again thx for the help....

Are there 4GB D9 kits? Because if you're [H], you'd buy them.

Or a 2GB kit. At 900, you could try for CAS3, most likely CAS4.
