I originally had 2 x 128MB of PC133 CL2 in my machine. The motherboard only holds 2 sticks, 256MB maximum for each slot.

I bought a piece of Crucial 256 PC133 CL2 off eBay about 2 weeks ago, and used that alongside my 128MB stick, giving me 384MB. All was well.

I bought another Crucial 256 PC133 off eBay and it came today. It doesn't work. It's CL3 however. It shouldn't make a difference, should it?

I already looked in my BIOS and it doesn't say anything about RAM timings, etc. Can I do anything? Or, do I have to contact the eBayer and try to get it sent back and refunded?

Try it in the system by itself. If that doesn't work, reset the BIOS and try one last time. If that still doesn't work it looks like you may have purchased some bad ram.

It's also possible that your memory won't play nice in the same system. It's been a common problem as long as memory has been around.

I think he meant reset the CMOS. If you don't know how to do that, RTFM:

Read The <Expletive Deleted> Manual

There is a jumper near the watch-bettery like thing. Play with it. Short some pins.

I didn't know we had so many Genmay'rs lurking.

I spoke to a technician and he assures me it should work (CL2 and CL3 together). I guess I have bad RAM.

Thanks.

I'm not going to mess with it, thanks though. Who's the GenMayer?

Gee, thanks

That's a possible fix to your problem. If you don't want to try it, it's on you. I never thought opening a manual and reading for 30 seconds would be too much trouble.

I would also make sure that you have the latest version of BIOS available for your motherboard. Sometimes, early versions have several hardware incompatibility issues that are later corrected. It's worth a shot.
