ived seen a pci raid card for ide, so does that mean any 2 ide harddrives with the pci card will be automatically raided or do u need identical drives to do so

any two drives can be used.

Note, the performance of the raid will be limited to the performance of the slowest drive in it. Note: the size of the raid will be limited to the size of the smallest drive in it.

so if i get another 250gb ide same space cache, rpm and i plug in the two hds would it act as one?

yes... are you doing this to gain more capacity or speed or both?

It depends on whether you configure the controller to do this or not.

both, i was gonna go sata but the same hd i have now is 60 bucks, and the sata hd i want is over 100 (500gb), so raiding them will be better
so can u reccomend me a good raid pci card?

you can't have raid give you more performance and more capacity with two drives. If you wanted to use three you could get both but with two you have to choose more speed and size or more reliability.

Note, if you go the speed and size route you'll more than double the chances of losing all your data.

im aware of this, and i always backup my downloads :D, and i have windows xp home cd, if i neeed to reistall windows

im sell the hd i have now prob, and buy 2x160gb/16mb cache for raid 0 or 1 :D lets see how that goes

I understand the fun of raid very well, but if you want the best performing solution you need to buy a single 150g raptor. This is simply no better performing desktop drive.

yea but its expensive though 2x160gb/16mb cache in raid 0 is around 80 bucks less and perform better

Don't deceive yourself. the performance of those isn't anywhere close to a raptor... and are you sure about that price once you buy a raid card? I've bought raptor 150's for as little at $160 lately...
