I am thinking about getting a pair of SSD drives and putting them into a raid 0 array, but have never even thought about raid before. I've read some on the theory and I have a basic understanding of how a raid array works. The part that I am not sure about is which software or settings I need to make it all work. I have seen the option in bios to set raid up - is this all I need or do I need some other software? I do have a cheap sata expansion card that has software raid as part of it, but I have never used the raid part, only the sata ports. Wouldn't it be better to use the onboard motherboard sata ports? I have an X58 M/B with ICH10R connections. Any help would be appreciated.

After some research there are two ways to do the raid array that I would be interested in:
1) Motherboard raid (my m/b bios does have the raid choice)
2) Windows 7 raid setup.

Which would be better (better performance)? and is there a tutorial or short outline of how to make it work, especially if I want to put my Win7-64 OS on the raid array?

For RAID 0 and RAID 1, stick with the motherboard's onboard RAID. Windows software RAID is pretty much a last resort option.

Also, read your motherboard's manual on how to setup a RAID array. It's all covered there. And for simplicity's sake, you're gonna have to do a fresh reinstall of Windows.

Are you sure you need to do this ? One SSD, especially one from 2011, is already very quick.

Of course I don't need to do it. I just want to do it. Actually, I have 2 spare drives that I just want to experiment with.
