Hello,

I've recently bought 6x 3TB HDDs, and my current RAID cards (3x perc 5i) do not support 2TB+ HDDs, so it's time to start phasing them out with a better RAID card.

The idea is to either a) replace all perc 5is at once, or b) replace 1 perc 5i, and get more cards once I buy more 3TB HDDs...

With that in mind, I'm looking for a card that meets the following:

* Supports RAID5/6
* Supports 3TB HDDs
* Price: $500 MAX (for 16-port) or $300 MAX (for 8-port)
* BBU + Memory prefered


Suggestion from friend:
IBM M1015 (Pro: Cheap, Cons: Can't find info about IR mode supporting 3TB+ RAID5/6 and it does not have a BBU/Memory)
 
Hmm. That looks like a good option. I see that it is basically a LSI 9260-8i without RAID6 support unless it has the IBM M5000 feature key.

For 6 x 3TB drives I would say the OP is almost needing that key however. By that point the OP may consider a deal on a recent LSI card since I have seen a few 8 port refirbs under $400 with the BBU.

You could use M5015, which includes the BBU (and 512MB instead of 256MB). However, both (M5014/5) require an "Advanced Feature Key" for RAID6 support. The M1015 needs a key for RAID5 and does not support RAID6 at all.

EDIT: I should refresh more often.

Thanks for the suggestion guys...
The M5015 seems like a great card, but needing the advanced key to do RAID6 is a deal breaker (card would cost $600+)...
At the same time I'm not 100% comfortable setting up 6x3TB in RAID5.

So, any other options that support RAID6 in that price range?
Edit2: I see the LSI 9260-8i would meet the criteria, but it costs around $430-450.
