Hey guys can anyone tell me how to setup RAID on this motherboard?

I got my B3 board setup with my SSD & 2TB drive on Intel's 6GB ports, AHCI mode.
I just got a couple of 3TB drives i want to put into RAID 1 but i don't know how to go about it.

The Marvel ports on this one apparently don't have support for RAID.
So is there a way to enable RAID for the 3GB Intel ports and leave the 6GB ones as AHCI

just cram them on 2 of the 3g ports and fire up the riad bios (one of the f keys during boot, it should tell you - Make sure its enabled in bios first). then create a new raid set.

Dont forget, youll need to format them as GPT in windows, not NTFS, if you want all 3gigs accesable

If you put them on the Marvell ports, youll need to set them up using the marvel bios instead of the intel one.

Since you are doing raid 1, 3g should be plenty fast so stick with the intel ports.

So setting it to RAID mode wont affect the 2 drives on the 6GB ports in AHCI mode? That's all im trying to figure out really.

nope, as long as you dont add them to your set acidentially.

lol

raid mode and AHCI are effectively the same thing. Raid is a subset of AHCI

You need AHCI for RAID to be on with these intel chipsets as mentioned. This has been confusing for me for a long time, but now I've figured it out.

To make the raid, it's ctrl-I at boot with RAID selected in the bios. Just make sure the hdds are on the same controller. It's pretty simple to set up. I've carried my RAID 1 over from my 775 board (Asus p5q deluxe) to my new SB 1155 board (P8P67 pro) no problem, just flick on RAID in bios, and the hdds signal the controller of the previous setup, and you start again where you left off. Very nice feature :)

Enjoy your RAID, I know I do. I've got mine since I've got the first 1.5tb Seagates to come out, and the failure rate was ridiculously high, so I've kept them RAIDed for good measure, and have had no problems to date, other than annoying rebuilds every so often from powering down wrong or whatnot.

Also, FWIW, I believe that the Marvell controller does support RAID as well, but I always turn off the Marvell controller on my boards to speed up booting since I've never needed to use the controller, the standard Intel RAID has always worked fine for me.

Also, be sure to download Intel's storage controller program "Rapid Storage Technology"

I enabled RAID and launched the configuration utility (Intel RST 10.1008) but it didn't show the 2 3tb drives, only my ssd and 2tb drive i have on the 6gb ports. any ideas?

put them back to ahci, boot into windows and see if they show up in the storage pool. dont initialize them or anything, just see if they show up.

they're both visible in disk management, set to gpt for 3tb and the space is unallocated .

k, so they are deff woking, and being detected...

leave them in achi and bring up the raid bios. do they show up like ur ssd and storage drive?

i dont know how to do that. i only see the CTRL-I prompt if raid is enabled. once i put it back to AHCI there is no prompt at boot

I have this board and am running raid 1. I don't know if the Intel Sata 6 ports support raid.

Plug in your OS drive into the Gray port
Plug in the two member drives into the light blue ports, then power up the machine
Go into the BIOS and under the sata settings, switch it to Raid mode.
Reboot and hit CTRL+I and keep tapping it until the utility comes up. Select the two drives you want as members and choose Raid 1.

You'll have to reinstall your OS BTW if switching to Raid mode. I suggest switching to raid mode, installing the OS, shutting down, then plug in the 2 data drives and set them up.

What are you having problems with other than this? You may not see ctrl+I if you have full screen disabled or have tweaked the start-up. If not, use RST 10.1.

^^ thats what im trying to do, but when i get to the drive selection i cant see the 2 drives on the 3GB ports (the ones i actually want to put into RAID 1)., it only gives me the option of setting up RAID on the 6GB disks

im upgrading the GPUs soon so i'll just setup RAID again and then reinstall OS, that should work hopefully. thanks

yes, ALL the intel ports support raid, even across 3g/6g....

My only thought is maybe there is an issue with 3tb drives...but if windows can see them in AHCI, it shouldnt be an issue with raid...

just for shits and giggles, swap the 3g/6g ports...ie put the 2 singles on 3g, and the two 3tb on 6g and see what happens..
