Hey guys,

I'm building a new PC, and I already finalized all my parts, and I'm right about to pull the trigger but I have a few questions about RAID 0. I plan to have a RAID 0 configuration between two 500GB Samsung F3 Spinpoint drives. Here are my questions:

1 - How much storage room will I have in total on my computer? 1000 GB right? Or less, since you're using RAID? I don't want to just put the OS and programs on one drive and storage on the other, because I don't have 500GB of programs, and I need more than 500GB for storage.

2 - What is the performance increase in speed (read and write and etc.) between RAID 0
(two 500GB drives) and just one drive (1TB)? An approximate percentage value would be appreciated. I just need to make sure that it's worth having twice the failure rate for the increased performance.

That's it. Answers would be appreciated.

I have a better idea for you. Get an SSD for you OS & Apps, then use a 500Gb+ drive for your storage.

It will be faster, and more secure than Raid 0, where your current plan puts everything (OS, apps & data) all at risk due to Raid failure.

With 2 single drives. A FAST SSD for your OS & apps you'll have much better performance.
and the single 500Gb for storage your data is at least 2x more secure than on RAID 0.
