Rage - PC $4.99

Thanks. Bought it for my husband and it arrived today. :)

Normally I get packages from Newegg in 48rs or less. Right now its a little over 4 days :/

It was nice when the package went through one carrier like UPS. Now days it seems like 2-3 carriers before getting to your door. USPS being the slowest.

Mine was first picked up by DHL, then delivered to USPS. I'll get the game by the time it on sale for Steam's holiday sale :p

Monday is veterans days so it slows it down a little. I was looking forward to this and my new case being here Monday. But it's ok the free food will make up for it :)

I don't see why there is so much negativity towards this game. From what I've played this game seems fairly solid; I'm not hunting around for quests, character handles well, game runs smooth, graphics look great.

I suppose most people who got it on release were expecting something ground breaking and instead were met with bugs and a fairly ordinary shooter. But if you just play it like a Doom game where you are just trying to have fun shooting bad guys then this game is great.

Fun game worth $5. It's not a great game, and parts are not even good (ending, though not as bad as Crysis 2's ending), but it's fun. Plus, the issues should be played and seen to be understood and appreciated. There are games that forgo visual fidelity for style (Dishonored), but it can be a fine line. Rage fell on the wrong side of that line.

Well... on... my... system... it... stutters... a... lot...

This was tested about 6 weeks ago. Has there been a patch to fix it?

Yea... AMD systems suck balls at this game. Not hating here, but from the beginning the issues were WAY worse on AMD based systems (gpu especially), and never really got fixed. On my Intel/Nvidia system, it runs pretty well.

this was to be the next great thing in video games, hand painted mega-textures, open world shooter, lots of missions, multiple ways of achieving goals, weapon upgrades etc. another failure to deliver by carmack. being separated from his name it would have been just another blah shooter that people pick up when it reaches the bargain bins and do not expect much, but lots of us had preordered with great expectations and instead got a fairly linear shooter with texture popping and so forth.

You could always count on Carmack to at least deliver a great engine, but even that wasn't true in Rage. Sure, they can blame Nvidia/Ati for the driver issues, but it was terrible at launch and there's no excuse for that.

There was a lot of potential in Rage, but Id totally blew it. At least Carmack admitted to that. I hope Doom 4 will be a lot better ...

I'm so sick of hearing "rage was supposed to be...blah blah. But instead was derp derp"

Here are the bullet points from someone who played it on an ATI card

  • Most bugs have been patched
  • Linear Shooter - NOT a fallout style RPG. I don't know why people keep thinking it was supposed to be a sandbox RPG.
  • It's an FPS! Again!
  • Best graphics/artwork to date.
  • No real story
  • No real ending
  • Not much logic
  • Mostly just shooting

If you accept it for what it is, it's still a good game well worth $5. When have id games ever had a real story, or RPG elements? It's always been run-and-gun, or in this case drive-and-gun.

I originally hated on the game for the textures & such, but after playing it for a while, I'm really enjoying it. I guess its as good as its going to get for being a semi-linear shooter/driving game.

I bought this game using bitcoins the other day and have it on steam... where do I get this high res texture pack I hear so much about

If a game is shit at $50.00 it is still shit at $5.00. Sorry I'm not rewarding laziness and that is all Rage is. If you feel it is worth whatever amount that is on you since it is your money. But all of the complaints levied at the game are legitimate complaints and potential buyers need to know of them.

Price makes a difference.
How so?
I did not buy this game at launch:
1) game queue is too long
2) wasn't going to pay for a game with all the issues.

I did buy it during some sale recently. Let's assume I paid $5. Game is patched now, I don't have any crazy graphical nonsense, and it's fairly mindless entertainment for 5-8 hours if you're into that. The cost of a large flavored latte.

Is the game worth $50? No.
Is it worth $5? Yes.

It's $5. A subway foot-long.sandwich.

Perspective is a beautiful thing.

I think Carmack said screw you to us.

I have tried this tweak out, but nothing has changed.
http://www./whats-new/articles/how-to-unlock-rages-high-resolution-textures-with-a-few-simple-tweaks

I'm pretty sure that the latest patch already incorporates all of this already.

It's a shame because the shit textures and frame rate locked at 60hz does detract from the gameplay.

So far the game feels a little too linear for my taste. But I'll likely push through and complete it as I hear the SP is under 10hrs. Rage does have MP but it looks non-existent.

For $5 I suppose it's worth it. Anything more is questionable. Granted I have played SP games 10x as good as Rage for the same price. Darksiders is one of those games.

I'm only making this update because Rage CTD on me  I hear this is an issue. Let's see where my save game is at

Price doesn't change quality, just makes it easier to overlook. Basically for me I would rather support and play games from developers who at least try to make a game not a game demo for one of their future games.
