Rage Drivers!

Ya ive tried several, 10.8's on up, Disabled Crossfire and tried to run 1 card, 2 cards or all 3 i get the same result. Every other game i own, Which is a ton run great. Ill try the Hotfix when its released and if that doesnt work im just out $60, im not going to try to re-install my whole PC for 1 game and that might not even matter

Marc, buddy go to your game library on steam, right click rage and go to properties. I forget the name of the option but I believe it's verify file integrity or something like that. It's in one of the tabs. I think you may have had a file or 2 corrupted during the preload or download. It should find and fix any bad files. Run the new driver that just released specifically for rage. There are 2 apparently and the new one is the correct fix.

The game is running great now! I did disable CF (it's not working yet anyway). Had a blast so far playing some of the co-op shooting levels and some destruction derby. Really enjoying this game despite the negative opinions here. Playing @ 6048x1080 with no issues :D

I just tried the "latest" AMD drivers for my system (single HD 4850) with no luck. :(

I guess going to have to wait out trying this one; no CF drivers make me say :(. Another night of BF3 beta I guess.

I may be a noob here but what the hell are rage drivers? How are they different from the regular CAT drivers?

Everything works for me with the new drivers + CAP4. 4890's in crossfire with vsync on and 8x FSAA, everything is silky smooth. Using a bunch of commands on launch that were posted elsewhere too though. Here they are:

+set com_allowConsole 1 +cvaradd m_menu_sensitivity -0.1 +set com_skipIntroVideo 1 +fc_maxcachememoryMB 1024 +ik_enablesmoothing 0 +image_usecompression 0 +jobs_numthreads 4 +mem_phymemblocksizem 3072 +m_smooth 0 +m_rawinput 1 +image_anisotropy 16 +image_usecompression 0 +g_showplayershadow 1 +m_smooth 0

Ugh. Rage is completely unplayable on my 4850 X2. The game stutter-locks every 2 to 3 seconds. I'm guessing this is because the game doesn't have a Crossfire profile yet. (How the hell doesn't it have a Catalyst profile?)

Highly annoyed. I planned to spend the evening playing Rage. Now I can't.
Some people have reported success by exiting their web browser (apparently anything with flash in it will fuck with the game) and disabling the Steam overlay. Also while it doesn't have its own CAP it does have its very own driver!! Just a shame AMD screwed up releasing it.

When I installed over 11.9 I did get some flashing character models in multiplayer, but after uninstalling, driver sweeping, restarting, and installing the Rage drivers everything (aside from CF) is working great. If you are having issues you should give that a shot.

Can't wait to play this game. I just ordered a MSI 6970 Lightning to play games like this. I need DX11, lol.

Hopefully card and game arrives by this weekend so I can have some fun.

Lol, you do realize that this game doesn't even use DirectX, right? It's a Carmac game, ie: OpenGL.

I don't run any applications besides Steam in the background when I play games. What's the point? Also, the game definitely needs its own CAP, as I'm using Crossfire.

I went through the Rage thread on the Steam forums and found that most of those cfg or command line tweaks help quite a bit, but the hitching and stuttering still happens when moving through areas. Better than nothing, I guess.

Getting regular crashes to desktop, starting to get annoying. Running the Rage Drivers just released on a clean install of Windows with nothing running in the background.

No improvements with these drivers. Same FPS and keeps crashing trying to load new scenarios like races. 3X-4X FPS - HD6950 - 3 screen Eyefinity

Did you do an uninstall/clean sweep? I have the same setup and am getting ~60fps constant with no crashes. I have played several multiplayer race games as well. I have not modified any config files yet. Just the basic unaltered steam game. Nothing forced in CCC.

Disabling Catalyst A.I. fixes performance for me. Smooth as silk now.

Of course, now I'm getting image artifacts. Time to try a full removal and reinstall of the Rage drivers.

No, I'll try that. Thx!
I do get way too low FPS considering recommended hardware for the game.

EDIT: I have AMD_Catalyst_11.10_Preview_Sep26 and AMD_Catalyst_Rage_Performance_driver installed (default AMD folder). The first one is for BF3 and that's the one CCC sees as installed.
Should I just delete all and reinstall the rage driver? How will BF3 run with that? Any way you can switch drivers on the fly?
Does CCC = driver or is it Catalyst that's the driver and CCC just manages? Should you unistall CCC for clean reinstall?

Did anyone try the config file fixes posted on the front page here on the H yesterday as well as the bethesda recommended blurry texture fixes and can confirm this stuff all fixes the game? Anyone in this same boat can upload a high quality video for the forum's viewing pleasure with these fixes incorporated?

I'll tell you what I've done.
First I clean swept out my CCC by uninstall and then DriverCleaner.net
Installed the "Rage Performance Driver set".

Then I ran the game, Crossfire disabled (no CAP anyway, dumbass AMD) 60 FPS solid, no texture problems.

I then adjusted the FOV by adding 15 to the Steam Launch dialogue......same FPS.

I then added this .cfg file:http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?p=25524360#post25524360

This file is essentially the same as the front page with some added tweaks. I adjusted a few things that are particular to my computer.
I think the game looks a "little better" but my FPS went in the tank, I barely make 35FPS at a very constant rate. It's hard to take......and I got texture filling lag to boot.

I am going to delete the file and use ONLY the stuff on the front page and see what that does.

I think this would be vastly improved if we had a fucking Crossfire profile. I can't believe AMD doesn't have one.

Wow it looks like a crossfire profile is all you need then for that game to run just right. Sorry it's not available yet. AMD has been dropping the ball lately when it comes to the caps. Have you tried using radeon pro to force a crossfire profile? For me I'd try some openGL profiles e.g. doom 3 profile. Looks like the texute pop in seems cured, can you confirm that the vsync and blurry textures are fixed too? If all of those things are fixed and a crossfire profile comes out I'll get this game when it hits the bargain bin for sure. I don't think this game is nearly as bad as people are making it out to be but all the constant rage sucks stuff is surely to bring this game to the bargain bin very fast.

If I use just the FOV fixes and leave the rest of the game to itself, I think V-Sync is enabled.
I still get a bit of tearing, but it isn't a deal breaker.

The textures in this game are wierd.......some are just beautiful, while right next door is the worst thing you ever saw, flat and lifeless. It just doesn't make any sense. The colors in "poorly lit" areas are odd as well.

I like the game, but then I'm basically a SP kind of guy. I like FPS games and I like linearity, so this is my kind of game.:D

There are some odd ball key bindings, but once you get around that, the gameplay is solid and it looks good overall. As soon as I got the combat shotgun and the heavy pistol rounds, the game became way fun.....:p

We need some tweaks and a Crossfire profile! If this was Crossfired, it would run well over 100 FPS easily.

So it's just like crysis then :p

Anyone know if these drivers include what was in the 11.10 BF3 hotfix too?

No.

If I recall, the "Rage" driver is added to the 11.9 WHQL driver release.
It has nothing for Battlefield.

here's whats disappointing about AMD:

AMD Catalyst Rage Performance Driver Features:

Significant performance gains for single GPU configurations
Compatible with AMD Radeon™ 6000 and AMD Radeon 5000 series of graphics products
Includes the latest OpenGL driver component for Rage performance optimizations

CrossfireX issues to be addressed in the final Catalyst 11.10 driver due at the end of the month!:eek:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...erfDriver.aspx

What the fuck AMD, what is the CAP program for then. Shit I'll be done with the game and on to Battlefield3 before you knuckleheads get a profile out for this game.
I guess we should all just wait a month after a game is released to get all the support we need to play the game correctly on our expensive state-of-the-art AMD GPUs.......jeebus.

Probably because unlike a lot of other titles, AMD have had no dev access to Rage because it's under nvidia's control. I'm willing to bet the SLI support was pretty instantaneous.

No it doesn't however the 11.9 Cap 1 does. So install these drivers and the 11.9 cap 1 and your good to go N1GHTRA1N. :) I know it only mentions Red Orchestra in the details but the Catalyst Creator confirmed that the BF3 fixes are in that cap. I also confirmed as that cap fixes performance even more for me on a very slight level over the 11.10 hotfix as well as it fixes the weird texture clipping in the park area of the operation metro map big time.

From what I've read on the Steam forums and widescreengamingforum, as well as , there IS an automatic update if you use the nvidia auto update thing, but nvidia still doesn't have a proper SLi profile for this game either.

From what I've read all the update did was disable nvidia CP VSync setting.

Both sides seem really slow to get things out here, but the lack of a proper Crossfire profile is just pathetic.

That does surprise me. That said, it's not so often you see OpenGL used for a major title these days.

:D

There has to be a way of getting crossfire working better in Radeon pro as a temporary work around. I don't have the game, but if I did, I'd play around for about 2 hours to figure it out. Radeon pro lets you set different profiles like supertile, driver default etc.. then it also lets you use application specific. the first application I would try would be doom 3 or doom 3 ROE. Then maybe enemy territory quake wars, I wouldn't be shocked if those or another open gl profile would get a massive fps boost in crossfire on this game. Anyone who hates this game care to donate it to me to use for a while. LOL

Actually, that's a long shot. Maybe I can try the Rage Sucks thread since there are so many bitching there, one may be willing to donate it to me. LOL some say they will burn it. :D

Anyone wanna try the 3 profiles I mentioned, I'm really curious and annoyed I can't afford the game right now. Here is a link to radeon pro which is free BTW

Try;

Doom 3
Doom 3 ROE
Enemy Territory Quake Wars

Also try the 3 or 4 crossfire options already in radeon pro that are not application specific. Use fraps or whater fps counter you have to verify performance boost.

I will be more than happy to use your suggestion when I get home tonight.
is there anything in particular I need to know about RadeonPro?
Does any software conflict with it?

Shit......we have a game that we've had to tweak, shitty drivers, and now we have to develop a Crossfire Profile.....I love AMD.....it's homebrew potluck everytime a new game is released.

Has AMD or Bethesda said anything about some kind of crossfire profile/support coming for this game?

Apparently not coming until Catalyst 10.10 is released.

Yeah, so much for the whole "more nimble release capability" justification when the Crossfire profiles were moved into their own separate downloads.

That must be why SLI is having major issues too?

Maybe a bad game is just bad?

Also, from twitter:
Plan is to release a unified Rage/BF3 driver in the next couple of days.

I've tried everything I can think of but I can not get it to stop crashing to desktop. Very frustrating.

Maybe a bad game is just bad?

Why is it id's fault that AMD didn't have their act together?

Also, is anyone else having a problem where they try to enter an area and get stuck at the loading screen? I keep having to Ctrl+Alt+Del.

Why is it id's fault that AMD didn't have their act together?

Its pretty clear from other recent games such as BF3 that if developers are willing to work with hardware companies, support on release day is not an issue. Unfortunately the only hardware companies it seems like ID cares about working with anymore are Sony and Microsoft - at least until their game starts generating tons of bad press because it looks and runs like shit.

Also, many of the complaints seem to revolve around bad textures and texture popping. ID's only solution to this that allows the game break past Quake2 graphics is to enable transcoding via CUDA using an nvidia GPU. Is that AMD's fault too?
