Rage Drivers!

That would be awesome! My original question still stands.....why couldn't this be finished at release.....you've been at it 7 years for Christ's sake.:eek

NukeDukem Has AMD or Bethesda said anything about some kind of crossfire profile/support coming for this game?

If you look up about half a page, I posted a quote from rage3d. AMD stated the Crossfire deal wouldn't be done until 11.10 Catalyst is released...........and we're all done playing the game.

Its pretty clear from other recent games such as BF3 that if developers are willing to work with hardware companies, support on release day is not an issue. Unfortunately the only hardware companies it seems like ID cares about working with anymore are Sony and Microsoft - at least until their game starts generating tons of bad press because it looks and runs like shit.

Also, many of the complaints seem to revolve around bad textures and texture popping. ID's only solution to this that allows the game break past Quake2 graphics is to enable transcoding via CUDA using an nvidia GPU. Is that AMD's fault too?

id doesn't know how to work with driver development teams and GPU companies? Now I know you're off your rocker.

Gotnorice may not have any rice but he sure does have a solid point though. There is no way the 2 graphic companies were as involved in the development cycle in this game as they were in other AAA titles. Look how unpolished this game is on PC. No graphic options that are tweakable, no console, low res textures.. cough (consoles) This game wreaks of a bad console port. IF amd and nvidia were involved you better believe that there would be crossfire and Sli support on launch day and there isn't. I blame Bethesda and ID for this fuck up. The game simply is a piss poor console port thrown together to collect whatever money they can. Good enough for 13 year old console gamers but people like you should be appalled. We/You deserve more than this from a company that was made by PC's and owes everything EVERYTHING to pc's and pc gamers. They should be ashamed of themselves and John Carmack shouldn't be able to look himself in the mirror until this is fixed, and even then wear the cone of shame for at least a month after that

This was the first game developed entirely in-house by ID since Doom3 (2004), and furthermore, they are now under new ownership with questionable priorities (read: consoles).

You make it sound like they have some established history of working closely with driver development teams, when in reality they don't have much history of anything over the last 7 years.

Crossfire/SLI didn't even exist when ID made their last game, unless you were using Voodoo2's :p

They were bought by Bethesda, sure. That doesn't automatically equate to new ownership. Todd Hollenshead still runs id. John Carmack still writes engines and leads technical development. It's mostly the same core of people who were there as far back as Quake and earlier.

Sorry, but a lengthy development gap between their previous release and their current release doesn't mean everything they've ever done in terms of hardware vendor relations and cooperative development went out the window. You make it sound as if id fired everyone and started all over, ala Activision/Infinity Ward. Not the case.

Was Rage developed primarily for consoles? Yep, you bet. So is everything else these days. The Xbox 360 is everyone's lead platform, except maybe Blizzard and Valve. Even Valve has dabbled in consoles, and the only difference there is that they back the PS3 over the 360 due to post-release maintenance and Sony's allowing them to port Steamworks to the platform.

Would Rage, if it were strictly a PC game, be technically better-polished on day one? Yep. But that's true of everything else: a PS3-only game is technically better-polished than a multi platform game for the same reasons a PC-only game is technically more polished. Less QA complexity, less worries about incompatibility, tighter development and testing focus.

But, sorry, I'm not going to blame the guy who basically invented the concept of working with hardware vendors during development for technical issues on his newest game.

@LordExodia:

I tried the Radeon Pro and it would not activate Crossfire for the game.
Maybe I'm not doing it right?
I tried both Doom3 and EnemyTerritory OpenGL profiles and neither worked.

I found the instructions on Radeon Pro to be a bit lacking anyway?

I got my best results for the game using the AMD second release drivers and the modified texture .cfg files that were posted on the front page late Wednesday.....and also available on the Grforce.com website.

I just wish AMD would get their act together.

He knows as much about driver drops as he does texturing. Drivers are not going to "fix" the texture issue. What the 20GB install is for is beyond me.

Can't even run this game at all on my AMD rig that has a 6950 on it, I applied this driver and didn't do shit, screen tearing, horrible lagging and freezing every few seconds and its basically unplayable. Why the fuck did ID have to make this game based on OpenGL? And ATI really needs to fix their drivers when it comes to OpenGL, because I've encountered a lot of problems with games that uses OpenGL with ATI drivers. What a fucking disaster this game is.

Although I did finally get the game to run great on my ATI setup. I agree with you 100%.

Opengl Drivers are a fucking joke. I STILL after getting it to run at 60fps, am getting horrible textures everywhere.

When I got the Dead City was I so disapointed in what I saw I almost closed the game for good.

It's like ID decided to say a big "FU" to use old time gamers, and release a game for the consoles with some crappy PC port for us.

The new drivers do help ALOT, but only help it run smooth....not fix the horrible textures.

Either way you cant really blame ATI for a Shitty PC port (coming from ID i know sounds fucked up)

Honestly, I have found the game to run just fine for me, right out of the box with the "proper" AMD driver.

As I said, I am gimped to 1/2 of my 6990 but the frame rate is pegged at 60.

What is disappointing to me is the way the game looks. Some of it is just beautiful, but a majority of the little details that make a game look good are just bad, bad, bad.

Even after I modified the .cfg file, the texture overall is poor.

I like the game and i have had fun with it so far......but i constantly am looking at things going: " I can't believe that (whatever) looks so shitty.

Exactly.....Dead City is what REALLY got me pissed off....i could not believe what I was seeing.

Thanks for trying that out Magoo, Radeon pro is pretty self explanitory. I'm sure your doing it right. Essentially, you create the profile by pointing to the games .exe file in the game folder. One trick I like to do is to force the game into high priority mode under the 3rd tab called tweaks (I believe) and to disable aero. This way when I launch it I see the desktop color change notification I know it's working. There are a few crossfire profiles that are not application specific as in doom 3 quake etc..

I believe those options are check boxes called; supertile, driver default and one or 2 more I forget off hand. I'm currently on my laptop and don't have radeon pro here otherwise I'd open it and tell you. Make sure to try each of those.

It's a shame the application specific options didn't work. I had high hopes for some of those. Guess were SOL and have to simply wait if those options don't work. Id really thinks that the gamers that they owe everything to deserves a giant turd with a good game underneath it if we're willing to dirty our hands with shit in order to get to it.

@Exodia

Thanks.
I did try alternate frame rendering as well now that i see how you categorize things....still nada.
Looks like I did it correctly, it's just a bit hard to figure what does what and the online manual is pretty worthless.

I'm just going to use what I've got for now.

I hope BF3 is better organized.:p

Here's why I scratch my head everytime I buy an AMD GPU,

Do they have like two guys who work on this stuff?

CatalystCreatorAndrew D

by RAGEgame

Also note - CF support for Rage will come in another update next week (the team tried very hard to get it in this week), so look for that

WTF? Work until it's fucking done.
This should have been ready when the game launched.

This kind of shit will keep me from buying any more AMD products......I don't give a good damn how good they are or how fast they run.

For the last year and a half I've had AMD stuff, but I'm done.

Either way you cant really blame ATI for a Shitty PC port (coming from ID i know sounds fucked up)

Everything is a console port these days. It's an unavoidable fact of life.

Anyway, I found that disabling Catalyst A.I. eliminates all the performance issues, but at the cost of introducing garbled textures all over the screen. It's a price I have to pay, because I'm actually enjoying Rage despite the poor technical execution.

Anyone tested the new 11.10 preview that was released today?

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU122AMDCat1110PreDriverV2.aspx

I'm pretty sure this is just the combined BF3/Rage driver that should have been released in the first place. I don't believe it has any additional enhancements over the driver released earlier this week, but it'd be nice to know for sure.

Edit: confirmed.

The V2 11.10 driver doesn't include any new performance gains for BF3 or Rage - it's now unified and resolves some Rage issues plus Xp/Vista

It's just a combination driver. Nothing new.

With the new drivers is Rage playable now ? Or did I save $60 ? You know what screw them I'm not spending a dime on this P.O.S. & best yet it got a higher rating than DNF & it looks like shit, thats amazing !!!

I know this is technically false because the Doom 3 pic is using the HD texture pack, but it still amused me:

Am I doing something wrong here? I applied the latest hotfix and I still can't play RAGE on my 6950, its lagging like hell and freezes every few seconds.

Those glitches are called being enraged. :)

Try a clean install of the new driver that released yesterday. 11.10 Version 2. Run the game with that driver and no Caps installed

If that doesn't help Try installing the 11.9 Cap 1

Lol, I was waiting to hear the term 'rage rage'. Haven't seen it yet, to my surprise...

Why would you fool with a CAP in Rage anyway?

The is NO Support for Crossfire in Rage yet......maybe next week.:eek:

Catylst maker said on his twitter once not long ago that the CAP's are not just for crossfire but for single cards as well. but with beta drivers you should not use the latest CAP. they are for release drivers. This is what he said not me just a relay.
