That's pretty nice that they are going with a low profile option. May have to check that out for my future server that I'm planning..

Yep & that single slot 6850 looks like it just might be short enough for a q07..

There graphics cards definitely cater to SFF.

Plus this video draw power from the PCI-E slot, no external power required.

You mean the Lian-Li PC-Q07? That case takes full-height cards, so what would be the benefit of using a low-profile card in the Q07?

And this 6850 has a double pci bracket, so it wouldn't fit in the Q07 without some mod.

I don't know if he was talking about a different case, but he's talking about this single-slot 6850, not the low profile one in the OP.

As an aside, apparently Afox is a Foxconn spinoff company, in case anyone was wondering.

Yep I was talking about the single slot 6850.

& I Hadnt looked to see who made A-Fax, but I kinda figured A-Fox was the bastard lvoechild of foxconn & Asrock.
 
My bad... the single slot 6850 does look very interesting!

And the low profile card in the OP looks like it's perfect for a case like the Antec NSK1480

I didnt even look at the link but figured that it would be too long. The PCQ07 is a tough case to work with. Palit 460 is its best friend.

Would the LP fit in like an ISK 300 or something?

Nope - the ISK 300 only takes a single slot LP card.

You guys know about the Palit GTX 560? At 7.4" it looks like it should fit in the PC-Q07.
 
From the picture, it looks like a dual slot graphic card. In the specs, (1 slot x 2) very last one.

Ah, I see... I saw the single slot opening, but thought there was room for a dual slot bracket to be mounted. I see now there's not. I also didn't realize the HDD takes up the space where a second slot card would be.

So the case is 208mm... this single slot 6850 looks like it's right around 8" (203mm), which means it either won't fit or fit extremely tight. Do you have the internal measurement of the PC-Q07? Edit: NM, missed this, from the official specs - "max video card length: 180mm." Guess that means the Palit 560 wouldn't fit anyway at 187mm, regardless of the dual slot thickness.

The Palit/Gainward GTX 560 Ti would fit if you cut the back of the case for the second bracket.

Like here with the GTX 460 which has same PCB length:

That 6850 might be just a tad too long. It looks like XFX 5770 SS (wish I was wrong). The maximum internal length of the video card is 208 mm - (2 x 1,5 mm (the case thickness)) is 205 mm?
 
After looking at the GTX 590 and the HD 6990, it seems to me if you can fit TWO processors on a 12-13" long card, why cant someone build a HD 6970 or a GTX 580 thats only 7-7.5" long? I looked long and hard at both of the dual GPU cards and if you technically cut the second half off, why wouldnt that work? Then some really small cases could fit a powerful card. (as long as cooling was up to snuff)
 
I'd like to see wider (taller) graphics cards. I believe the standard is 111 mm. I think a new standard at 150mm would be a very logical step.

At 150mm, we could begin to see reference graphics card cooled with 120 or 140mm fans. Aftermarket heatsinks (eg. Thermalright shaman), wouldn't overhang the card and waste space. This change should also shorten the cards dramatically. If the pcb area was constant, then the length of the cards would shorten by 75%. Obviously these bigger fans could also keep the noise down as well.

I think the move would make a lot sense and it would allow the evolution of the pc to diverge faster. Super thin cases could go with integrated graphics, while those wanting more gpu muscle could do so without needing as long a case.
 
That is the same as with mxm in Voodoo Firebird. That is just custom build. Too much diversity can kill. I dont know if it is right to call up DFI. There is no way that manufacturers are going to increase costs to appeal to a small fraction of a market.
 
I dont think he is calling for more diversity. He is calling for a new standard. Meaning other sizes would be the custom ones. The new CPU on board graphics are more than capable for HTPC and such, but a SFF case is limited in length usually more than height. I think its a great idea.

And I still think someone could build a 6970 or 580 under 8 inches long. Would settle for 6950 or 570 :)

It says that they are aimed at SFF.

Of course for itx it requires connector. Then since that Voodoo firebird the standard has changed so the modules now are incompatible. Its a problem with this standard. Now I wonder if there would be PCIE to MXM slot connector module that could make ue of the integrated video outputs on the motherboard.
