R9 290X - Huge mouse pointer?

I recently installed a Gigabyte R9 290X in my HTPC (specs in sig.) and am having a puzzling issue.

As soon as any driver is loaded (default windows one, 14.1 beta, etc.) the mouse pointer becomes HUGE. Turning on mouse shadows causes it to go back to regular size, but the pointer in games remains comically large.

This is apparently an old bug from the 5xxx days that has resurfaced. From what I can find (thanks Google), the only way to fix it is to manually edit the EDID info. Is there any other known work around to this issue? Anyone else suffering from this?

I was fairly pumped to try this card out, but I'm quickly souring on the experience. I've already had to use a driver sweeper program to get games to run normally (had been awhile since I had to do that...) and connecting the HTPC directly to the TV instead of the receiver makes no difference.

I've owned 5850 Crossfire and 6950 Crossfire setups in the past, so I understand things may take some tweaking. For a single gpu box connected to a TV that I use an Xbox controller on, I was hoping for stuff to just work.

Prior to installing this card I was running a 560 Ti which had no issues.

Downloaded DDU and ran it as instructed (neat program btw). After it finished, I installed 13.12.

Unfortunately, that didn't fix the problem. Still have a HUGE mouse pointer, cursor, etc.
 
I would love to see an image of this if possible =P. Wish I could offer some insight on how to fix it...But you had me intrigued at comically large =P.

Yeah, there's notes about this issue in my old AMD Diver Bug thread for years ago.

One of the reasons I moved away from AMD was because of this bug. It was pretty embarrassing and HIGHLY frustrating having to reboot a high-end gaming rig because the driver decided to corrupt / enlarge the cursor out of nowhere.

Just for the heck of it, start the Windows Screen Magnifier tool and set zoom to 100% (non-zoomed). Your cursor should be ok as long as that tool is running. It's a band-aid for a much deeper issue, but it works...

It took a BIOS update on the card to fix it? Ugh. :(

I hooked the card up to a standard DVI monitor and it fixed the mouse size. So I decided to try a DVI to HDMI cord that I had on the TV, but that didn't make any difference. Huge mouse pointer came right back. If I have a DVI monitor and the HDMI TV hooked up at the same time, the mouse is normal sized on one the monitor desktop and huge on the TV.

Absurd, honestly...

I'm probably going to exercise my return privileges on this one (thank god it is from Amazon). At this risk of sounding whiny, I expect a $599 card to function properly, no matter the output I decide to use. Editing EDID's sounds fine if someone is overclocking a monitor, but for stock performance it is a bit much.
