Let me try to understand your stance a little better here...
Assume, for a moment, that the XTX is going to be 20% faster than the GTX across the board. Everything it does, it does faster, and the IQ is the same between both cards. Assume that both cards have the exact same price. Feature-wise, the cards are basically identical.
If the GTX uses around 180W, what is the threshold for how much power the XTX can consume before you reconsider your stance? If the XTX draws double, 360W, and uses some obscene number of power connectors, do you still buy the XTX? What about 720W? 540W? 1400 watts?
If you're drawing the line on who is and who isn't [H]ard, perhaps you'll also draw the line on how much power is too much power when we absolutely know that the advantage of the power-sucking card is around 20%.
Well they have a point as do you. Lots of people here are worried only with the fastest profromance they can get up to a point (that point being different for every one, cost, space, heat, power, all can be limiting factors in the end). People go to extremes to get the very last ounce of profromance out of there systems here (Over clocking anything, water cooling, SLI, ect). The spend the time and the MONEY for the best they can get. So for these people, a "60 watt" difference is nothing. Your smart enough to know that here these folks only care about speed for the most part
But you also bring up a good point about when do we reach that point where it "cost" too much. In your example is the cost of being a much higher power draw worth the small speed bump? And that is goind to be a different answer for everyone. Some one like you that seems more down to earth would have a much lower tollerance. But for the e-penis kings, then.....
Another point this power useage number are first and foremost from un-verifible sources on un-released parts that as far as I know are still not under and NDA. While it still fun to speculate we all know the the R600 is going to draw more. You can not have more memory clocked at the same speed or faster and not draw more power (assuming the the die power draws are simular wich is probably not the case)....
