R.I.P. Maxis

The legendary development team of Maxis was gone a long time ago. The unit in EA called "Maxis" was just a bureaucratic name with no relation to the old company that made it big.

It was and it wasnt, the game had way too many restrictions

At least they hadn't yet gone so far as to encrypting game configuration and save files like their latest titles. Big middle finger to the modding community that makes games worth playing more than once.

I was ready to give up on all things EA as I played BF3, SimCity 3 and C&C 3. I stupidly purchased the fourth installment of all three of those games and hated every one of them. At this point, I am absolutely done with EA.

Heres some fun info

This division technically lives on, more or less just a name change. Many of the same employees and programmers from Danger Close are still there.

They are now EA/DICE Los Angeles. They have been taking care of Battlefield 4 development since April 2014. They have been the ones fixing most of EA/DICE Sweden's fuckups. They did the CTE test environment and fixed the netcode. Fixed being a relative term here since it still has some issues. They brought it on par with BF3 with the August patch (BF4 was a step back for almost 8-9 months), and just issued another patch that improves it even further.

This. The two latest games to carry the Maxis name were SimCity and The Sims 4. While both games were fun at face value, they were mere shells of prior games in their franchise. I imagine most of the talent that was responsible for Maxis at their prime is long gone anyway.

Basically, what I'm saying is... EA killed off Maxis long before today.

So EA is basically a serial killer. Reminds me of that TV commercial Stephen Colbert made for the last presidential election "Mitt the Ripper". Replace Bain Capital with EA (Colbert Super PAC Ad - Mitt the Ripper: http://youtu.be/rSLGt0-bHIA )

Hate to say this as I don't like when people lose their jobs but the last Sim Cities was unforgivable and anybody in loved in that should have been fired.

Who cares about the number of companies that were shut down? What the hell did any of them produce in their year under EA? very little
