QX6700 Availability

All of the parts for my QX6700 System arrived on Thursday, 12/14/2006. Four hours later the Wind Storm of 2006 hit the Seattle area and our power went out. Roughly 45 minutes ago it finally came back on. Yes, we were without power for 7 days, and my QX6700 sat cold and dark for virtually all of it. Now with Christmas upon us and travel plans, it will probably be another week before I can do any serious overclocking. Ugh :(

That sucks a week with out power!!

I had that last year after Hurricane Katrina. (7 days no power)
And I was lucky b/c I live outside of New Orleans. They were showing on the news a few nights ago, how the electric company was TRYING to get the last few neighborhoods, their power turned back on before Xmas. Yes, nearly 16 months with out power, to the worst hit areas of New Orleans!!!!!
 
I also live in Seattle, well SeaTac, 3 days for a lot of people since the storm hit early morning-1AM and many received power as I on Sunday evening at 7:00 PM

So I managed to get a little overclocking and benchmarking done before we left for the Christmas Holiday. One of the main reasons I choose the Quad Core was because of Video Rendering. I took the DVD of Sin City, ripped it to my HDD with DVD Decrypter, and then used DVD Shrink to re-encode it to fit on a single layer DVD-R. In all cases I was reading from ripped files on one HDD, and writing the newly rendered files to a different HDD (not a DVD). All times are in Minutes and Seconds (MM:SS) along with maximum temps for the quad core:

P4E (Prescott)
3.40GHz (17x200) - 41:05

QX6700 Quad Core
2.66GHZ (10x266) - 3:16 @ 48' C
3.20GHz (10x320) - 2:47 @ 59' C
3.41GHz (11x310) - 2.39 @ 60' C

Needless to say, I was blown away. At 3.41GHz the Quad Core was nearly 16 times faster than my current P4 also running at 3.4GHz. Plus the CPUs were only running at about 90% on the Quad Core because the data transfer rate of my HDDs (about 60MB/s average) was actually the bottleneck.

I'm using a Zalman CNPS9500 with Arctic Silver on the QX6700. I originally intended to use a Thermaltake Blue Orb, but my XMS Pro memory was too tall, so the Blue Orb wouldn't fit.

Hitting 3.2GHz was rediculously easy, simply upped the FSB to 320 and it worked. Hitting 3.4GHz required tweaking the CPU Multiplier. Though when I get home after Christmas I may try taking the multiplier down rather than up, and try to up the FSB even more, such as 9x378 to hit 3.4GHz, as I've read that Quad Cores benefit more from a faster FSB than most CPUs simply because there are more CPUs sharing the same FSB.
