I'm planning on mounting my rad for my wc setup on top my case, and I was wondering would it be easier just to remove everything from my case and then drill the holes or should I drill out the 12 or so rivets in my case and then have to re-rivet it?
 
Since you are going to be doing the work, which method would be easier for YOU? It's a bit hard for us to determine since we don't know your skill level and what tools you have. Half the people will say one way is easier and half will say the other way is easier, but it is ultimately up to you. I feel that removing everything would be easier, but it might involve more work. Also, that way you don't compromise the structural integrity of the case.
 
tools aren't a problem, I work at a hardware store, my only concern about leaving the panel on is stray bits of aluminum

Yeah you definately don't want metal flakes on your components. If you take all your stuff out then it shouldn't be too hard to vacuum up everything when you are done. So it just comes down to how difficult it is to take everything out compared to how difficult it is to drill our your rivets and then rerivet. How much stuff do you have in your case?
 
I would suggest taking everything out then drilling the holes. If you drill out the rivets while everything is still in the case you still run the risk of stray bits of metal getting into your case once you remove the top. Unless you have a way to ensure that no shavings would get inside the case I would recommend against it.
 
heh, I didn't even think about metal flakes from drilling out the rivets. In that case it would probably be better to take everything out before you drill.
 
alright thanks for the replies, I guess I'll take everything out and leave the top panel on. Also for the tubing, won't I need to drill a slightly larger hole than 1/2" such as 7/16 in order to fit a rubber grommet and then the tube through?
