Hi y'all great folders :)

I gots this quick question. I know the SMP WU's have a short deadline, but, according to my FAHmon, the WU 3051 prefered deadline is 23 Hr and 59 min (about uno day).
The problem I have is with a E6600, OC'ed to 2.8 MHz there's no freaking way I can make that deadline.
My step completion is roughly 14 min in WinSMP, my other machunes (E6420 @ 2.4 GHz, E6600 @ 2.8 GHz) run the LinuxSMP program. The step completions are roughly 12 min and 14 min respectively. (err... un-respectively)
What gives  Am I doin' something wrong
All three are 24/7 folders, waiting on the Q9450 to hit the wilds for another 24/7 folder :p

Its some kind of error in Fahmon - real deadline is Prefered: 1.5 days Final: 3 days

btw. I will catch you very soon :D:D:D

p3051 has a preferred deadline of 1.5 days and a final deadline of 3 days from Stanford pSummary.
Which core does it need ?

FahCore_a1.exe is the standard SMP core.
FahCore_a2.exe is the high performance SMP core.

Luck .......... :D

Now I'm really confused , two different WinSMP clients in windose? I'm gonna' put this machine on Linux64, I just got a Centros64 CD in the UPS and I have a drawer full of Linux64 CD's. (Ubuntu 7.10, Kubuntu 7.10, Xubuntu 8.04, etc)
I have no idea what core I need or what's happenin' with the WinSMP client HELP!! I'm drownin' here.

Thanks Rebel44, I was thinking maybe FAHmon was reading wrong (or me ) I've never had any problem with it in Linux. I did check the projects page and you are absolutely correct it says 1.5 days.

btw: You wouldn't be the first to overtake me, keep on smokin', best of luck. :p:p:p

Tigerbiten,
What's the difference between the two cores?
"FahCore_a1.exe is the standard SMP core.
FahCore_a2.exe is the high performance SMP core."
Does a2 get you more ppd or work better with a quad over a dual?

No.

The SMP client will run one of two cores when it crunches a WU.
If the client needs the FahCore_a1.exe then its crunching a standard SMP work unit.
If the client needs the FahCore_a2.exe then its crunching a high performance SMP work unit.
The high performance WU tend to have even shorter deadlines that the standard ones but they can give a better PpD.
I think which one you get depends largely on how fast you can return the work units.
You tend to only get the high performance WU if your running a WU on all 4 cores of a Quad.

Look in you FAHlog.txt file.
At the start of each protien you should have the lines .....

[19:33:35] + Processing work unit
[19:33:35] Core required: FahCore_a1.exe <- Thats the core needed to fold this WU.
[19:33:35] Core found.

[23:09:02] + Processing work unit
[23:09:02] Core required: FahCore_a2.exe <- Thats the core needed to fold this WU.
[23:09:02] Core found.

Its the same client running both cores, just different WU.
Its can happen in both Linux & Windoze.

Luck ............. :D

Thanks Mr. Tigerbiten. :)
It's sure nice being able to get help and have your "dumb" folding questions answered by individuals in the know. Not only are your questions answered, but nobody makes fun of your ignorance. :D (a very refreshing break)
Up until you pointed it out (I've been folding for awhile) I've never noticed the different cores in the FAHlog. I don't look at the log as often as I should.
Does this mainly concern quads? (the a1 and a2 thing)

I'm not exactly sure of the difference between the cores.

The old SMP WU had a preferred deadline of 3 days and a final deadline of 4 days.
These are folded useing the a1 core.
The newer SMP WU have a preferred deadline that's exactly half the final deadline.
I think these use the a2 core.

The faster your CPU and the more resorces, cores & memory, you give a client the more likely you are to get an a2 WU.

I'm not to sure if there's is a PpD advantage of running a2 vs a1, as all my SMP clients are running in VM's or on dual core where I'm limiting the memory use to only 999 meg.
There may be one buts its small.

Luck ........... :D

Something to keep in mind is that some deadlines can be shorter than others if the WU has been re-issued due to the server not receiving the original one in a timely manner. At least, I believe this is the case.

Thanks Mr. Tigerbiten. :)

If any folder here makes fun of someone asking a question, no matter how simple or "basic", they will be tortured. We just don't allow that here and I'm not sure the last time we had to torture anyone because of that. People come here for information on folding and we are more than happy to share our knowledge.

We may answer the same question 5 times in the same week, but it doesn't matter. Plus, it's interesting to see the different discussions which get started even from the same question being asked. We want anyone and everyone who wants to fold to be welcome here. It doesn't matter if you have a borg the size of FLECOM's or a single P3 crunching away. You and your help is more than welcome here and we will do all we can to help you out.

Agreed 100% with this post.

I have not seen or heard about the "FahCore_a2.exe" Thanks for the update.

Hope sometime we can get some mroe info and speed vs old core ..

None of my boxen have hit this yet. When did this go live?>

QFT

I also think that it is part of the culture here. We need every boxen we can to be running. Can't do that if you belittle someone.
