Quick question about XP on a laptop...

I'm not the most technically savvy guy, especially when it comes to PCs, so please dont laugh at my question!!

I live in Japan, and I have just purchased a second hand one of these little beauties..

Unfortunately for me, it has the Japanese version of XP installed on it. I would like to reformat the whole thing and put the regular English version of XP on it.

My question is, can I use my normal copy of XP that I have installed on my desktop Dell PC? Or is there some special version of XP for laptops?

Please advise! Cheers.
 
There is no special version of XP for regular laptops. But I don't think you can use your copy of Windows XP thats installed on the Dell PC. It is an OEM Windows XP CD, which means that you're only allowed to install XP on the same PC. Plus I think that Dell's OEM Windows XP CD checks to see if your PC or laptop has a Dell bios. If it doesn't see a Dell bios, then it won't install.

Bingo. You cannot use a Dell cd to install windows on another pc. Unless it's the genuine WinXP cd, and has no dell labels
 
It's not a Dell version of XP. It's a regular version I bought from Amazon.com. Will it be OK?
 
You can try, the cd-key underneath the laptop probably won't work so would have to use the cd-key from amazon. Physically the actual OS install disk is the same in terms of content for xp
 
you can to load a dell xp cd on any pc itll load completely youll then have to add your own cd key and call ms to get it activated
 
You might want to try posting on a windows forum before wiping the drive. There has to be a way to switch the langauge pack without doing a total reinstall.
