Hey all. I got a nice little work bonus this month. Im going to put it towards my first DSLR.

Ive already done a fair bit of research, and Ive found a camera that works great for me (and I tried it out as well) The Canon Rebel T2i (D550) seems to work great and has a cool movie mode that I see myself using a fair bit....

Quick question though.....

Digital cameras are now at a pretty good state, however theres one thing I DONT see. It's 1080p at 60fps progressive. I see 720p at 60fps, but theres nothing on the market currently that does 1080p at 60fps (mine does 1080p at 30fps, and 24fps). It's obviously a TON of data to put on a flash card, but im just worried thats the one thing that we might see on the next generation cameras.

The reason I ask is that 720p@60fps looks pretty damn cool for watching sports on. I tested out some friends playing tennis and it looked pretty sharp and clean. 1080p will only look cleaner and sharper, but its currently not happening @ 60 fps

Is there a reason why?! Will we see it next year? Are we limited by memory or processing? Im in no rush to get an SLR, but im just curious if thats the one feature id like, and might see next year
 
Why? Bandwidth/processing speeds.

Next Year? Maybe. I wouldn't bother waiting. If you want a 1080p cam, get a video camera now.

Limitation is probably a bit of both.
 
im not aware of any video cameras that do 60fps progressive at 1080p. lots do interlaced, but thats not what im talkin about :)

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1 can do 1080i at 60fps, which is the closest any camera gets currently. The Canon 7D is a popular camera for film makers, but can only do 60fps at 720p. There always seems to be a battle between photographers who don't want film on a camera, and those who do. So with 24fps (standard cinematic speed) there probably isn't much demand for the feature, although the new Sony alpha 700 is rumored to have it.
The limit is proabably frame buffer and memory cards. If you look at video cameras that shoot 60fps at full HD they use P2 flash or Or HDDs. It takes up loads of room. 32gb isn't so much for RAW files anyway, but Flash cards are also FAT32. So 4gb files only, this is fine for a camera taking 5mb photos, but for a film camera you'd be limited in the length of clip at 60fps.
Look at RED and SONY video cameras. The RED EPIC 617 PRO does 1-100fps on 6k footage.
