I was looking to get a intel core duo quad core q6600, but I realized that I don't really know much about FSB. I've built a computer before, but i only used DDR RAM, so I didn't have much trouble with that.
the q6600 link has a FSB of 1066 MHz, so I was wondering what kind of mobo and RAM I should get. From my understanding since I'm getting a quad core, I divide the 1066 by 4 to get 267 MHz which I then multiply by 2 to get the FSB of the DDR2 I need, which would be 533 MHz. Should I just go ahead and get 800 MHz DDR2 RAM? or would it matter as long as it's more than 553 MHz? I was planning on buying a 2x2gb ram set, if that helps
I am also unsure what to do for my mobo. what FSB should I look for when deciding what mobo to get? all I know is that I need a mobo with at least 3 SATA 3gb/s slots and RAID 5 capabilities
Also, here are my planned specs so far in case anyone has any suggestions or comments or places where I can get components for cheaper:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - OEM
$255
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail
$22
3 x Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
$105 each for $315 total (RAID5)
Video card I'll be using a 7800GT, I don't want to upgrade that just yet
I haven't decided on a case or dvd burner yet
Oh, and how does this monitor look, it seems like a good deal to me
Acer AL2016WBbd Black 20" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail
Thanks for all your help!
