Quick question about ati cards

My radeon 2900 pro 512mb got fried a couple of weeks ago.
So far the guys that are supposed to replace it only told me that it will be replaced by a 3850, and I was just wondering what if... so does the worst 3850 with like 256mb is still better then my old 2900?
