Just had a major system wreck (thank you creative labs...) and now I need to redo my water cooling setup. I unfortunately have to tear it down in order to get at all the parts that I need to replace, and I'm kicking myself for not having set up with a quick connect system beforehand.

Now that I have a second chance, are quick connect fittings a decent option? I certainly like the prospect of being able to access my machine any time I want to without having to drain my loop.

If so, where can I go to get some for 1/2 OD tygon tubing? I'd be adding them to the mini res and the swiftech rad in my loop.

I saw a previous thread that recommended this site as a viable place to order them, but I have to admit. The site isn't all that navigable, seeing as each link doesn't include a picture of the product to confirm that I'm getting the right part. That, and it's pretty expensive.

Already went to Lowes, Sears, and a local plumbing/heating shop looking for fittings, but the closest I could find were 3/4 air compressor fittings, which I'm not convinced that even if they were the right size (even though Lowes boy is convinced) that they will work.

Koolance has some great QD fittings these days.

Check out the Performance-pcs WC fittings page, and select the Koolance vendor. You'll find many awesome fittings to meet your needs.
 
I used the US plastics ones (ordered from McMaster.com which was easier to find - same part) with the shutoff valves in my old system that used a T line for filling (no res) and basically put another T line at the bottom of the loop with the quck connect for draining. Made draining a snap, however since in the 5+ years I had that machine I drained it once, I wonder if the $25 for the fittings was worth it, it would have been cheaper to just buy some extra hose and cut the old stufff to drain. LOL. I would not put anything with an internal shutoff valve in the main loop, they restict flow pretty badly even when mated and open.

No idea about the Koolance ones.

do a search on - Quick Disconnect Tube Fittings. take you right to what you want to know. Mcmaster has no problems with small orders and takes credit cards, I have only ordered by calling them after getting part numbers off the site but have always been treated nice, shipping is fair, service and shipping fairly fast (not as fast as newegg but few are). Very reputable company. You can spend days and days looking at the stuff in their site and figuring out how to use it in your next build. Any kind of tubing you want they have, the FDA food grade stuff is higly recommended.
