I'm just curious how CPU limited games are right now. My pc has 4gb of ram, an 8800gt and a q6600. I don't have the money to just build a new one and I figure for around 400 I can jump up to 8gb and a nvidia 570. Just wondering if my CPU is really going to hold me back or not?
 
Is the Q6600 overclocked? The 8800GT is definitely the limfac in your current system - upgrading that, even with the Q6600, should give you a decent boost in games.
 
Yeah, you wont get the most performance possible out of a GTX570 with a stock Q6600 but youll still see a substantial frame rate increase. Itll hold you over til you are able to upgrade to a better proc. Youll still be able to max about anything at 1920x1080 and get playable frame rates.
 
If the Q6600 is OC'd to around 3Ghz or so, that should minimize some of the effects of the CPU bottleneck. So to answer your question: yes your CPU will hold you back but overclocking it can help lessen the effects. But to get the full performance out of your GPU, definitely start looking at a new CPU + mobo + RAM upgrade as well.
 
Yeah I don't play anything too serious just looking for games like Diablo 3 and maybe SW:ToR coming out to be smooth. Thanks. Yeah my monitor is 1920x1080 I think 22"
