Crossfire requires the same GPU so cards must be from the same series. You can mix and match within a series for example a 6850 and 6870 would work in Crossfire together but not a 6870 and 6970.
+1
Yeah sae goes with brands, as in you dont need to have the same brand just same gpu series like previous post said.
No the 6870 will not crossfire with the 6970, but if there was a 6930 that would work in theory. Note there is no such thing as a 6930 it was just an example.
On a side note be aware that you have the 6970 which is 2gb though there are 6950 with 1gb if you crossfire those i think it only goes to 1gb of usable vram. HF members correct me if I am wrong but thats what I was told in the past. Has it changed with newer series?
I thought it was required for an exact copy of the same GPU such as 5870 and a 5870. I thought 5970 + 5870 was an exception because the 5970 was a just a dual 5870 GPU. I've never seen 5870 and a 5850 crossfired before...
Is it possible to run 2 different cards on crossfire? I currently have an 6870 and was wondering if I could crossfire an 6970 with it?
