My dvd player in my htpc is pretty much dead now. I was thinking of just picking up a bd-rom. Is there anything other than a decoder issue that I will need to pick up in order to play blu-rays thru media center xp?
Was thinking of picking up one of the Samsung BD ROMs from newegg. Liteon's are cheaper but I have gone thru about 4 liteons with my htpc so far. They are great drives but they only seem to last around a year then they just stop reading disc's.

No go for Blu Ray in WinXP. It requires HDCP support which only vista and above have. Your display also needs to support HDCP.

Could be a big upgrade for you :)

HDCP isn't OS dependent.

OP needs...
1. HDCP enabled video card (pretty much anything after 2006)
2. HDCP display
3. BluRay software

HDCP Display, most displays with HDMI will work just fine in this regard.

hrm. Using the onboard ATI card on the MSI mobo right now. Guess I could pick up a cheap hdcp video card. Display is a 42" Samsung so I have no problems there.
