sup guys..

my 1st question is as follows...the only game i basically play is counter strike source on a 19inch monitor

i have a c2d e8400 @ 3.6Ghz (i didnt feel the need to go higher), 4 gigs of memory, 9600gt on an asus rampage formula mobo...

what will make a bigger impact at 1280x1024... look up for a quadcore, say a q9550 or even a q8200 or go for a gtx260 video or amd 5770 ?

2nd question is...if you guys tell me to go with the video...which one should i pick? a gtx260 or the 5770?

remember, all i play is css..and the rest is basically normal daily activities...

Grab the cheapest 5770 you can. CSS doesnt take hardly anything to run. I would even say grab a cheap 4890 if you can find one. Look in the for sale market place. you can pick up a used 5770 for 90 to 100 shipped

Yeah your current CPU is fine. GPU wise, I'd go for the HD 5770 1GB if buying new. GTX 260 if you're willing to buy used.

if both are used, which one would you get?
i saw a 5830 in the fs for $120

Yea, both are good choices, and are way more than up to the task of playing CS:S.

alright guys... i pm'd the guy selling the 5830 ... if you tell me that either the gtx260 or the 5830..i choose the 5830 cause im coming from a 9600gt..its already nvidia...

thanks folks!! it is highly appreciated
:D

The 5830 isn't nvidia though.

"i choose the 5830 because im coming from a 9600gt..its already nvidia..."

this means that I currently have a 9600gt which is an nvidia, and that i would like to try an ati card...

Do you really need an upgrade? I vaguely recall my 8800gt doing 8AA/16AF at 1280x1024 at over 60 fps.

I'm assuming you have a standard 60hz LCD due to the 1280x1024 resolution.

I thought you was implying that you wanted to stick with the same manufacturer.

^ ^ Same

My 6800GT AGP card chewed that game up with no problems at that resolution.

Before you get it, keep in mind the 5830 is a longer PCB card (11inches, check your case clearance) and requires more power than your current one by a good bit (check your PSU).
