Question about the Roku XD

I've got AT&T 6Mbs DSL & a 10 MBS wireless ethernet set up. Do I need to connect the XD directly to a phone line - or can I link it to the wireless ethernet? If I do link it - am I likely to have buffering problems?

We want to watch Netflix downloads on our HDTV.

Can anyone give me any feedback about the Roku XD & Netflix? My wife is worried it won't be a good investment (vs buying a blu-ray player with internet capability). The Roku XD option is certainly less expensive hardware than the second option (plus, we don't have any blu-ray DVDs).
 
Wait, you have two ISPs?

What's the wireless type on that wireless router? Wireless-G? Wireless-N? Some number like 54Mbps? 300Mbps? etc
 
Sorry, no, only one ISP. The LinkSys router is connected to the internet so my wife can use her laptop. I've got the desktop hard wired.

So the question is whether the Roku XD will work with my router without losing performance...

Again, which wireless type does your Linksys router have? If it's just Wireless B, yes it will lose performance. If Wireless G, should be ok for 720P content but 1080P may be an issue depending on a variety of factors. If Wireless N, 1080P should be ok depending on the same previous variety of factors.
 
Sorry, I lied. Its a D-Link "N".

She get's good connectivity with her laptop in the same room as the TV.

You might have greater flexibility with the blu-ray player if it supports other online video streaming services.

You might be better off asking that question over in the HTPC subforum that we have
