I just got my two loops put together and went to flush one with some water only to find the pump wouldn't power up when I turned on the power supply. I tried different molex's in case it was a bad one but nothing. Then I check the other one and it don't work either.

Is there some trick to starting these up or did I manage to get two bad pumps?

No tricks for inital startup make sure psu is properly jumpered. Take known working fan and put on same cpu. Also be shure you have water in pump when it starts don't want to damage pump.

I'm suprised you got a bad one, let alone two! I usually don't hear about many problems with the 655's and I use two myself. Sure the psu is ok? I know some of them require more then just the draw of the pumps to turn on.

did you use the jumper technique to turn the power supply on? If so you should have at least 1 hard drive and a case fan along with the water pump or the PSU won't start.

I've got nine fans, and my UV lights hooked up to the PSU and it powers them so I don't think it's the problem.

Just tried adding a hard drive to the mix and the pumps still don't power up. Hard drive powers up though.

Tried a few things now. 2 hard drives, 9 fans, cold cathode, my scythe kama controller, 3 - 5LED lights. Still no action from the pumps. Now I've got an issue with my power supply shutting down after about 2 seconds when I plug my SATA optical drive in to add power draw. Only does it when the optical drive is plugged in, works fine when I take it off. Think I've got a problem there but not sure.

The mcp 655 (aka Laing D5 Vario) is one of the most reliable pumps around. Odds of you getting two duff versions are very low.

Did you set the speed of the pump to "5" or "4" on the vario adjuster? Did you make sure that there water in the tube leading to the pump? Did you put a paperclip in the 20/24 pin connector on the PSU and connect the green one with any of the black ones? And then connect it to "one" fan (to prove the PSU works) at the same time as "one" of your pumps? When you turned on the PSU did that one fan turn on and the pump did not?

If you answered yes to all this, the pump is broken. If no to any of the above, might be your technique.

The answer is yes. I guess I got two bad pumps, which is a pain in the a$$ cause these things are tough to come by in Canada.

Are they making any noise? or vibration if not then pumps are fine there is some thing else is wrong. You need to fill up your tubes with coolant and make sure that coolant is in the pumps.

Yeah no noise at all just sits there doing nothing. I did fill the loop as much as I could. the pumps are at the bottom of my case and there was liquid in the loop to a level of around 9 inches above the pump. Nothing would make me happier than to find out these pumps still work but I tried all sorts of things.

I even pulled them out, set up a short system with a pail as a res and two lines on the pump, then plugged it into my other PC to see if it was a problem with the PSU on the new one. It still didn't start.

Oh and to stick the knife in a little further. One of the pumps I bought a the beginning of May, so directcanada won't do an RMA since it's been longer than a month. I contact Swifttech and they tell me they don't do RMA's outside the US, but a tech support person would call me and see if they could work me through it cause they think the pump still works. I sure hope so cause if not that's an expensive paper weight.

Ouch. That sucks. Bad pumps do obviously happen. I hope your bad luck stays in the watercooling part of your life :p

Ok issue resolved. Swifttech just called me and it turns out whoever wired the pump put the wires on the wrong side of the molex connectors. Apparently I'm not the only one who's had this problem recently. The wires were setup on the red side of the molex when they're supposed to be on the yellow side. My pumps work fine and I can continue with my completion. YAHOO!!!
