I cant OC even to 280 in the bios of my gigabyte P35-S3G mobo with my Q6600. What do I need to adjust to at least OC this much?

System Specs are:

Mobo: Gigabyte P35-S3G
CPU: Q6600 G0 stepping
Memory: 4X1gb DDR800 Corsair 4-4-4-12 timings
Vid: BFG 8800GTX

may want to adjust your ram and force it to run at 800 mhz, cause as you increase your FSB, by default it wil overclock your ram too and you dont want that. Also, increase your voltages, a good starting place is to

CPU Core voltage 1.4v
HT voltage 1.4v

and work your way from there.

Ok, so I dont want to OC my ram at all? Ok, I will try this.

Ok, so I locked the memory at 800mhz and still I wasnt able to oc even to 280.

Ok, so I dont truly understand this OC business. So, I locked the memory at 800mhz and I OC'd the CPU to 270fsb and when I boot up. my network card wont work, my CPUID shows my memory clock to bo 1600mhz and I dont understand why. What am I doing wrong?

I'm going to assume that the board you have has a similar BIOS to the DS3R and DS3L. If so, you will need to set the RAM multiplier to 2. That way it will run synchronous with the FSB. If your FSB is set to 266, the RAM will run 533, 333 will have the RAM running 667 and 400 will have the RAM running at 800. 800 is what your RAM is rated for.

Make sure the RAM voltage is set to at least what the RAM is rated for. I would do a 0.1v bump up on the voltage to try and rule out RAM instability. Since you're running 4 sticks of RAM it's going to be harder on the northbridge and therefore less likely to get a higher overclock than if you were running 2 sticks.

Lock the PCI-e frequency at 100mhz.

You may want to bump the other voltages up 0.1v to take that out of the equation. It may also help to manually set the CPU voltage to the default voltage it shows for your CPU. Auto doesn't always work the best but you should not need any extra voltage for the CPU at this point.

Disable the C1E and EIST functions. They can lead to overclocking instabilities since they are made to drop the voltage and multiplier of the CPU when the CPU is idle.

At the moment I can't think of anything else to add.

Ok, so, so far so good. Where do I go to disable this C1E and EIST?

Ok, so I did all that you said, set ram multi to 2.0, bumped the voltage up 0.1V, set PCI-E to 100mhz and disabled C1E and EIST and I still am unstable at 280fsb. Do I just have a fucked chip or what?

When you set the memory in BIOS it should be at 400Mhz. I would loosen your memory timings just take them out of the equation.

Also, you may need to increase your MCH/NB voltage in order to run stable with 4 sticks of RAM.
