Can Intel Iris Xe graphics (found in current regular business laptops) drive a 6K resolution?

Or would it have to be Xe2, or Xe3?

If using Thunderbolt 4 or DP 1.4 it should. Intel Iris Xe technically support high resolutions up to 8K HDR.

this looks like its the same for most, if not all, of the newer chips with xe igpu. EUs and freq. are probably what varies.

What would stop HDMI 2.1 from doing 6 or 8K?
hdmi 2.1 is a very wide and lose appelation 18gbps to 48gbps port will be found in the wild, with not more capacity in resolution than hdmi 2.0 but provide some others feature, device can even use internal dp->hdmi adapter with limitation.

those could be old hdmi 2.0 port but the 2.0 appellation do not exist anymore they all have been converted into 2.1. https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/when-hdmi-2-1-isnt-hdmi-2-1

Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake and Panther Lake list 8k HDMI + DP support. Meteor Lake doesn't seem to list HDMI resolutions at all in Intel's specs, but has HDMI 2.1 and supports 8k over DP. Rocket Lake to Raptor Lake (11th to 14th gen) only support 8k over DP.

Intel actually beat NV on DP 2.1 support. NV didn't implement it until the 50 series. 30 and 40 series have full speed 48Gbps HDMI 2.1, but DP 1.4. Meteor Lake and newer support DP 2.1 UHBR20. Funny thing is recent iGPUs support higher res/refresh than my ARC B580 discreet card. It has 2 UHBR10 ports, one UHBR13.5 port, and an HDMI 2.1 port.

All that said, check the specs on the laptop before buying. Just because the chip supports something doesn't mean the rest of the laptop does.

Thanks everyone. So it sounds like on Intel laptops with Iris Xe graphics, as long as it has DisplayPort 1.4 or higher, it should support 6K resolution.
