Question about e6300 vs e6400

I've been reading up on here alot past few weeks and have a general idea as to the answers of some of my questions already. Regardless, I think I need some direct input from people with some hands on experience so please humor me if I seem ignorant :p

I have a Gigabyte 965 DS-3 on the way along with a set of 2gig Crucial Ballistix PC8000. Now, my main concern is that I want to get the memory as close as possible to the 1000MHz rating and still maintain the fastest clock possible on the cpu.

Obviously depending on the memory divider I use my options look like 3.2 GHz on the e6400
or 3.5 GHz on the e6300

Now for the questions.
a. Will a Zalaman 9500 AT provide adequate cooling to reach 3.5 GHz on the e6300? Is there another cooler that might provide a significant advantage over this one?
b. Can the DS3 Handle high bus speeds that an e6300 @ 3.5 GHz would be running? Should I look into a chipset cooler for the board? I'm considering exchanging for an evga 680i board but don't really wanna drop the extra $120 for it.
c. I have some arctic silver 3 laying around (last time I built a real performance machine :p) is it the same stuff as the arctic silver 7?
d. Any particular week or code I should look for on the cpu's? Seems fairly random on the luck of the cores from what I've seen on the conroe database. At the moment I have an e6400 L28 B180 waiting for the rest of the parts. I work at a computer hardware store though so it's easy for me to handpick processors assuming we have a fair amount of stock.
e. Anything else I should know?

Personally, I'd think that 3.2Ghz on air is more likely to be hit than 3.5Ghz. It looks like you got a B stepping chip already. I'd see what that can do before swapping out for a 6300.

The Zalman might be ok...Tuniq Tower 120/Scythe Infinity/Ninja are also good choices. I probably wouldn't get the Zalman, but it has more to do with the cost than anything else. The Tuniq is generally considered the best air cooler you can buy.

Getting a 6300 to 3.5Ghz requires a great board. Not saying that the DS3 isn't great (I had one myself), but there are other factors that play into it. Your CPU/memory/power supply, etc. could all limit you from hitting 500mhz FSB. I'd definitely swap out that NB cooler. It gets really hot.

Any northbridge coolers you might suggest? I have a Antec TPII 550 I was thinking of using, but may swap out for a Antec Neo 500/550 or Seasonic powersupply. I guess part of my question to is will the e6300 provide better bang for my buck? I plan on droping a quad core in the board once they become affordable (6-18 months from now probably)

Honestly, I haven't really looked at them to even begin to tell you what cooler to get. You might be fine just mounting a fan near the thing to blow air around. Probably the cheapest solution.

I think 3.0Ghz is attainable pretty easily as long as you have decent cooling for your CPU (I can get there with the stock cooler on my 6300). At that speed, I'm running somewhere around 430 on the bus. I would say the 6300 would provide more bang for your buck. It should top out around the same spot as the 6400 unless you get a dud.

Since i've been fussing over this the past few nights I decided to drop the extra coin for the Evga 680i board which should give me a pretty good shot at 3.5 with the 6300. I'll post results when I get everything, in the mean time i'll be eating mac n cheese for the rest of the year :p
