Question about Access Points

So my dad has a computer with a LOOK DSL ISP connection through a DSL modem connected to his LAN port on the motherboard. So let's say I find and purchase a Wireless card with Access Point technology and install it into his system, and set it to AP mode. (This card is the Asus WL-138G-v2) So then I would purchase a Wireless Router. I would connect this router to the wireless card, and then connect USB and LAN1 to my PC to configure settings, etc. Then I would connect the other LAN ports on the router to my other computers.Would this work? Would I be able to broadcast my dad's LOOK DSL signal through a WiFi-AP 802.11G wireless card, and then have a wireless router connect to it, and then use the connection to connect all my PCs? Is this really possible?
(Note: I'm a n00b at this wireless stuff. Be gentle.)

I'm confused. Are you trying to extend a wireless signal or bridge two of them?

Why not put the wireless router between the DSL modem and all other computers?

So I'm guessing you only need the switch wherever you are, but don't want to run a cable from wherever the DSL router is? Simple, move the modem to wherever you are, put the WiFi router there, and put the WiFi card into your dad's PC. Would that work?

This is what you do.

From your dsl modem, plug that into the wireless router. Go into the router settings (probably 192.168.1.1 or 2.1) and make sure access point broadcast is on.

Put the wireless card in his computer, then start it up and let it detect it and install, then create a new wireless connection.

It's mostly automatic. If you live real close to other people (20-30 feet or above or below you), I recommend you go into the router settings and turn mac filtering on, then type in the mac address of the computer you want to have access to that router. You obtain the mac address of your dads computer by typing ipconfig /all into a cmd prompt.

You can also plug Ethernet cables into the router itself and run those to close by computers. If you play online games or use a server, you want a wired connection to either.

I re-read your post. Yes, its possible, but its less complicated to move the DSL modem to wherever you and your computers are, and just leave your dad on wireless, if possible. As bdc mentioned, wired connection is best for any high-bandwidth activity (gaming, DL'ing, etc).

Well, I don't game, and my dad doesn't want to move the DSL away from his PC. I just do simple web sufing and stuff.
Thank you all for your replies. :)

Well, I hope you don't want a fast internet connection, then. :p
