Question about a PSU

First post, please be gentle. :p

I have the PSU listed in the review here (mine is 3 years old) and I wanted to make sure it would work with my new EVGA GTX 280 SSC that will be arriving next week. I used Google as best I could, but managed only to get conflicting information.

Current rig is: Q6600@3ghz (stock volt), 2x2 gigs DDR2 800 mhz RAM, 3 HDs, 1 DVD/CD burner, 3 120mm LED fans (from Antec 900 case), and I have two external HDs i connect sometimes.

If I do need a new PSU, any recommendations for something of quality but cheap (College student) that will run everything for the next 2-3 years A-OK, even if I added a hard drive or two later on? I have no intention of ever running a SLI configuration if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

Considering the age of the PSU and the unknown quality of that PSU I recommend getting a new PSU. This PSU should be enough for at least three year usage and your planned upgrades:
BFG Tech LS-550 550W PSU - $75

I second Danny's recommendation. The LS-550 is an excellent PSU and one of the most inexpensive quality units on the market.

I ended up getting a tiny bit more money than expected from various grants and such from school and can spend about 100$ on a new PSU. Would the BFG be a better deal than this Corsair or PC Power & Cooling that were listed in one of the other threads? I do not mind the rebates and I make sure to get the money.

And the old PSU is a Enermax Noisetaker 600w V2.

The Corsair and PCP&C PSUs aren't better, they're just more powerful. If you're willing to spend the cash then it certainly won't hurt, but you won't actually gain anything compared to the BFG unit since it's more than capable of powering the parts you'll be using.

Thanks for the help. Went with the PCP&C for 80 AR because the BFG jumped up to 100 AR as of midnight. Guess I should not have waited.

Wow it did jump to $120. Must have been the newegg auto-gouge system. Looks like I'll be the proud owner of a 450VX soon.
