question about 2400 PCI

My friend has an old DELL P4 3.0 Ghz with PCI motherboard, 9250PCI card, 1 GB RAM, and win xp 32, and all he wants is to be able to play some games like cod4 and battlefield 2 on low settings without getting a new computer. Will this card work on his computer? A few years ago the best card i could find for him in PCI was the 9250... I had no idea there were newer ones out. Thanks
 
Well HD2400 PRO is not enough for F.E.A.R at 1024x768 no AA/AF..this is old game and HD2400 pro for pci-express is MUCH better than HD2400 pci.

PCI is really badly bottlenecking performance..no matter GPU. For example 7300 GT that uses PCI-e 1x loses BADLY against PCI-e 16x version. PCI-e 1x slot isn't even that badly bottlenecked compared to PCI.
 
So the card will work on his computer, but he wont be able to run cod4 and bf2 on lowest settings? Are there any benchmarks I can see for this PCI card?

If this won't work, is there ANY PCI card he can get to play those 2 games?
 
I would tell your friend to save up and buy a cheap system or find a way, if possilbe, to upgrade the motherboard to accept Pci-e 16x. The price for a new system are getting cheaper and even ebay has some good bargins.
 
I got an X1300 for a friend in Canada last year and he quickly learned he got exactly 30 - 40 ish FPS in Command And Conquer Renegade no matter what res or filtering he used. From 800x600 all the way to his monitors max 1280x1024 he got between 30 and 40 FPS even with AA and AF maxxed out. I used to get 50 - 70 FPS on the same game with my old 9600Pro ( slower than an X1300 ) at 1024x768 with 8x AF and 2x AA a few yrs back. Course that was AGP 8x vs Pci but that should give you some idea on how badly crippled the Pci bus is for gaming.

Anything beyond a 6200 Pci card is going to be a waste on Pci unless you want the ability to crank up AF and AA with no speed penalties.

Yep..no card with PCI-bus can run those games with lowest settings.

You have to realize that they started to replace PCI as graphics card slot over 10 years ago. For example Nvidia's first AGP card was already Riva128. There have been 10 generations of graphics cards since then.

Well perhaps if one would like to play those games on 800x600 kind of resolution and everything at minimum..then perhaps something like Radeon X1300 PCI could do the job.. but..

..like everyone else are saying..perhaps he should sell his old PC and then buy new one.

What would I do?

Buy Acer Aspire AM1610-U1201A from Newegg with $280. I'd sell those 512MB vram chips and buy two Kingston 1GB 533MHz DDR2 chips with $40 total.
Then buy Powercolor HD2600 PRO for something like $40.

If those old parts are sold total costs wouldn't be high and besides getting some sort of performance in these and other games this should be much better in everything else as well.
