I have a system that only has PCI and PCI-X slots. I would like to get the best PCI based video card I can. Can anyone recommend what is the best one I can get?

Keith

What are you using it for? A server? That doesn't sound like a gaming system, AT ALL.

Just get whatever is cheapest.

The Nvidia 6200 is pretty killer! I had to do some research on this recently cuz I had a computer with no AGP slot, and I went with the 6200. Found one on cl for $25 :p It was fine for cs 1.6!

It is kind of a general purpose system and will have some low end games played on it.

If by low end you mean like around cs 1.6 level the 6200 should do fine, check your local craigslist I've seen a few local to me for around $20 if you go on Ebay they're like $50

The 6200 at least had a DVI out which is all I cared about.

Hold on, hold on.

Your question isn't quite clear to me. You said the system has a PCI Express slot available? Avoid getting a standard PCI card as its not worth putting $5 into one of those.

No, he didn't. He said it only has PCI and PCI-X. And your not likely to find a PCI-X videocard, or at least not an affordable one. So PCI is his only option.

yeah menelmarar, too many people get E and X confused...

Man, haven't heard an actual question involving the PCI X slot in a while! I was going to say just get a FX5200, but yea the 6200 is probably the best bet now that I think about it.

A guy in my bf2142 clan plays with a PCI 6200, though his settings are crap he enjoys himself and it doesn't effect his gameplay. But that's really because he doesn't know what the games are really supposed to look like with his setup

Wow, I haven't even thought about PCI video cards since I put my Voodoo 2 SLI setup away... Choices are pretty limited. The only DirectX 10 chip I could find was a Radeon HS 2400. Other than that, there are Geforce 6200s, Radeon X1550s, and a whole bunch of other low end stuff. I'd probably stick with the HD.

Question. My friend has an old DELL P4 3.0 Ghz with PCI motherboard and 9250 PCI card and 1 GB RAM, and all he wants is to be able to play some games like cod4 and battlefield 2 on low settings without getting a new computer, will this card work on his computer with xp 32 bit? A few years ago the best card i could find for him in PCI was the 9250, I had no idea there were newer ones out.

EDIT: got my answer in different thread.

How does a PCI 8400GS compare to the others linked to in this thread?

Well, it will pwn the others. That's not saying much though, since they were all low-end cards when released 2-3 generations ago.
