Eyefinity only applies to GAMING across 2-3(or more screens)?

So if I want a dual screen setup but only want to game on one screen, I don't need eyefinity, right?

Which means I don't have to have display port when choosing for monitor?

I want to set up two matching screens that:
must be able to rotates 90 degrees.
is 22inch
must have aspect ratio 16:10.
Really prefer to have HDMI but depends on price too.
Price range is <$300, of course cheaper is better.

I will only game on one and that is light gaming(mmorpg). From what I have read so far, Dell 2209WA seems like the best choice. What do you guys suggest?

Eyefinity is gaming across more than one monitor.

The 5xxx series have 3+ monitor outputs. 2 are DVI, 1 is DisplayPort. To hook up 3+ monitors to a single card you *MUST* use the DisplayPort outputs for the 3rd and up monitors, regardless of whether or not you are using Eyefinity.

So dual monitors can stick to DVI just like you'd expect. For triple monitors from a single GPU card, then you need DP - regardless of Eyefinity. Likewise, you can use Eyefinity without using DP - you would just be limited to 2 monitors which would suck for almost all games.

Just to note, there is an HDMI port but it shares functionality with one of the DVI ports, so you can do HDMI+DVI+DP.

I know you want HDMI, but the Dell P2210's come with a native Display Port connector, if you ever decided to go the triple monitor route. You can find them at the Dell Outlet store for $180 with free shipping.

I can't say for sure, but don't you think it might look kind of weird if one of your monitors is HD and the other isnt?

I am sure I don't want more than 2 screens because my desk simply does not have enough space.
And 2 screens gaming is kinda stupid because you look at black bezel in the middle.
So I don't need eyefinity at the end, nor do I need to worry about display port(though I wouldn't mind having them just in case).

Can you guys recommend some monitor that:
must be able to rotates 90 degrees.
is 22inch
must have aspect ratio 16:10.

Thanks a lot, your replies clears up my confusion. Just need to decide what to buy now.

Why do you prefer HDMI? HDMI and DVI are literally the exact same video signal. For a desktop monitor without speakers, the only difference would be that HDMI has a smaller physical connection size.

The 2209WA looks like a good choice. You might also consider the NEC EA231WMI. Its $300, 23", and 16:9, but is IPS, has DisplayPort + DVI, 1920x1080, and sounds like a great monitor from what others here say. It can also rotate into portrait mode just fine.

I prefer hdmi just for the convenience: in case I need something other than my computer needs to be connected to the monitor.
Thanks for the suggestion, 16:10 is a must for me. I don't know what I will do with so much horizontal space. HDMI for me is not a must though, so if there are better alternative that is cheaper and better but no hdmi, I am all ears(eyes?).

Why do you want 16:10? Is it for content, or just to have the extra space vs 16:9? If it's for the extra space, the EA231WMI has more space than the 2209WA. If it's for content, I think you'll probably have trouble finding a 24" non-TN panel for under $300 (what you'll typically need to bump up the 23"-24" range to 16:10). I'd definitely go with something that isn't TN since you'll be flipping this thing into portrait etc. Might be the that 2209WA is the best bet.

Actually, I am looking for a 22'' monitor.

The reason for 16:10 is just that I feel more comfortable when I am just browsing web and doing documents work in general. I feel that when I am using 16:9, it's just too narrow? I don't mind the black bars at all while I am watching movies.
Anyway, 16:10 is still a must for me.

Really? There are no newer, better monitors? 2209WA is pretty old, right?

I'd wait to see what others have to say, but with so many 16:9 monitors being released (especially) in the 23-24" range it seems to be harder to find good ones that maintain the 16:10 ratio. If you can do 16:9 (and I'm with you, I just prefer 16:10), then there are a good deal more options.

Yeah the 2209WA is almost a year and half old now.

Well there are certainly other 16:10 22 monitors out there but they may or may not be better than the Dell:

And unfortunately none of the in-stock ones have HDMI. In fact, I don't think the Dell has HDMI either.

You are right. I don't have to have HDMI then, still doesn't leave me with a lot of options. HP LA2205wg looks okay to me. How does that compare with dell?
Is dell the only place where we can buy 2209wa? Can't seem to find them in other places.

HDMI->DVI adapters are cheap and work perfectly. But FYI, anything else you'd want to connect that would use HDMI will likely expect 16:9. Just saying.

Just so you know, the EA231WMI, despite being 16:9, has *more* vertical space than the 2209WA. Not much more (1050px vs. 1080px), but more. It just happens to have a lot more horizontal.

The only other IPS panel I know of in the ~22" range is the ZR22W, but its actually 21.5" and 16:9 (but 1920x1080, so still more resolution both horizontally and vertically than the 2209WA): http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF06a/382087-382087-64283-72270-3884471-4101127.html

And remember, the extra horizontal space of 16:9 turns into more vertical space in portrait ;)

One question I forgot to ask is is the dell glossy, or matte? Does this affect the graphic in anyway?
